Iberia DLC inaccuracies and mistakes on signs and layout

#1 Post by Lolsmurf » 10 Apr 2021 12:21

Hi SCS

First of all congratulations on the release of Iberia. I have had a quick look around the map and in the editor and there are some things I would like to share with you. I hope the community does its part as well.
I will start from La Jonquera border and go south along the coast first, later I will do other zones. To be honest, some parts feel really rushed so I am opening this topic to help the devs to focus on these points first next to big bugs.

So first things first, let me congratulate you with some nice additions and the good parts of this DLC:
-Rumble strips and attention to adding more sounds and feeling on surfaces, I hope we see more of this
-Excellent cities and detailing in them as well
-Signage on some places is spot on and perfect
-Company delivery places are custom made and look very nice, just like some rest stops

Now over to what I think should be addressed as soon as possible (and should never have made it to the release like this). I will just use screenshots and links to show what is wrong and how it should look like, to everyone reading this topic, feel free to join me to show SCS where the issues are and what mistakes they made. Some mistakes are very big and should be fixed asap.
I will focus on the signage and some layout issues, as these are the most noticeable.

Please get rid of this random 50km/h speedlimit. The dev who placed this based himself on street view images of 2008(!!!). There is no 50km/h speedlimit at the border for years anymore, which you can see in the current street view images. This sign causes AI to brake for no reason too without warning, very impactful for players.

Empty border. From google street view you can see we have some parked police cars and vans there, which is easy to add and increases immersion.

Random 80km/h ? This should be 70km/h for trucks and 90km/h for cars. Also, the lines on the road don't align...
[ external image ]

This lacks so many signs and models, the placement of that Spain entrance sign is also wrong.

Great sign , however an addition for trucks to keep right is necessary, as many players get confused with Spanish tolls suddenly having right side for trucks only while in previous DLC or in France this was never enforced by SCS.

IRL reference: https://www.google.com/maps/@42.4140258 ... 8192?hl=en

Entrance of highway not marked by blue autopista sign (this is an issue for many parts of the autopista or autovia, where a blue arrow is not enough). Also absence of marking what speed is allowed (120 in this case) when new traffic joins the autopista.

Large sections without a single sign. This is very unusual for Spain, I just checked and between La jonquera and the first toll before Barcelona (I guess its Peatge de la Roca) not a single sign. This is several dozen of kilometers, maybe a sign about wind or crossing animals could be placed here, as this section has no exits. Doing these decreases immersion a lot and makes the drive very monotone and boring.
[ external image ]

Tolls are hit and miss. Some are very well signed in advance, but some like the one below are insufficient signed. This toll comes right after a bend so its hidden, then there is a sudden 80km/h sign and then you arrive at the toll.

Again wrong model for the road beneath it, arrows don't cover the correct lanes. Also no announcement of this exit prior to the exit, so this is the only sign indicating the exit while you should use 500m ones at least.

Again whole sections without a single sign, this is the ring of Barcelona and between the exits there is not one sign indicating something, very unrealistic and this looks rushed. Ideas to add here are reduced speed limit, keeping distance, warning for traffic jams, VMS signs like ATS has, blue sign indicating 3 lanes run straight and will continue, no overtaking for trucks,...
[ external image ]

This sign is good enough, however again no anouncement prior to this freeway split. If you drive in the right lane and need to go to Zaragoza without gps, you will be surprised. Please SCS, use announcement signs for these splits and exits, you have them, all you need to do is add 500m on top of it. The zone behind the sign is also a sign desert, you see steep downhills and a curve, completely not signed, not even speed is signed. Things that miss here are a balize, warning sign for speed (yellow one like IRL), chevron signs for the curves with rumble strips, blue sign with arrows indicating right 2 lanes will split off, no-overtaking sign, dangerous curve sign.
You added the roadworks in the median, but you didnt use yellow paint or yellow signs indicating a construction area.

End of autovia on autpista? This should be end of autopista, AP-7 is autoPista 7 and is a tollroad, please use the correct signs, you mix them up everywhere. I will only mark this once here, but you did the same for the entrances. Please use the correct one.

Another wild toll, not sure who places the speed signs but it should be 90km/h, 80km/h is not used on the tolls. Again no indication or announcement of the toll, while exit 25 has a 500m announcement before the exit (well done), but I would expect the same for the toll. You also didnt use the VMS (matrix led signs) at all. I will not repeat this for the tolls, best you have a look at all of them and add more signs to indicate a toll is coming up. Just throwing a 80km/h sign in there without context is not enough and really sloppy work. Also exit 25 has no end of autopista sign, please check your exits and use correct signs. After the toll you used no limit signs, please get rid of them and place proper speed signs with 3 arrows on blue sign indicating lanes are continuouing. Spain is not Germany.

Rest stop without signage?

Going more south towards Valencia, again large sections without a single sign. No signs for rivers, no autonomous community signs, no region signs
Anyone else finding other places like above where signs are wrong or completely missing, please add them here so SCS has a simple overview.

I must add that I am a bit disappointed with this DLC, especially compared to what we receive in ATS. I hope SCS finally makes work of a dedicated sign team for ETS2 or expands the team if it already exists. Signs bring a lot of diversity to your roads as well as a big increase in immersion, especially when you add truck-related signs. The sections that are well made deserve all the praise in the world though, its not completely bad (thank god) so props to the developers of those good sections.

They could still be working on some signs that don't quite match the quality of many others they created, so maybe some things will be different in the next weeks (at least I hope so, because the quality difference there is throughout the map just doesn't make sense to me). But yeah definitely report if there are imperfections like the one at the border with the speed limit or the "autovía" sign used instead of the "autopista" sign, things like that are most likely blunders. I'll report some if I find them as well.

Well if I need to report it all in reports, I will be busy for the next 5 months. There is just a total lack of signage and detailing on many parts of this DLC and that I find really inexcusable.
Making reports for each one is a cumbersome process, hence why I try to get everything in this one feedback thread instead.

Another place that needs more signs and detailing. Where are the yellow warning signs? Where are the rumble strips ? Where are half of the signs? Where are the flashing lights to warn drivers at night ?
This is a roundabout at the end of an autovia, so cars and trucks are coming with high speeds towards it. IRL they added a lot of warning and signs to prevent traffic blasting through the roundabout for a reason.

They have almost all signs I mentioned above, they just didnt place them because of rushing. The roundabout and scenery is very well made, but sign wise this place is lacking.

Lack of interest and desire to make the DLC well done.
They do not have a mountain port, no secondary roads, only two.

I totally agree with you @Lolsmurf, there are things that seems like it's been rushed.

Regarding about not having signs on rivers, it's weird that some parts has river signs and others don't. For example in Andalusia there are some river signs, however in Aragon (near Saragossa if I remember) the river signs are not present.

I hope SCS considers reading this post and updating Iberia in the following weeks or months fixing those issues, and I also hope we get more secondary roads and some Pyrenees roads.

Thanks guys, it pleases me to see I am not the only one noticing these things. I will make more detailed reports when I check more in the editor, feel free to share any mistakes you see sign wise as well.
