specs for multimon triple monitor config
Re: specs for multimon triple monitor config
Quick follow up here...
New build is definitely performing better, in case that adds to the conversation/helps anyone else out that has a rig comparable in gen/performance to my old one...
Keeping in mind that I'm running triples (3 x 1080p) I can now run 200% scaling in Ultra (keeping SSAO low or off of course) and it holds 60 fps with vsync on with largely no problem. FPS is even higher with vsync off of course so I definitely have more headroom now, but movement is not as smooth without vsync. I also noticed a solid headroom boost in other games, like Rise of the Tomb Raider where min frames for the built-in benchmark now stay MUCH higher and even at 4k (min. of 28.26 in Syria is now 49.44).
I am still tinkering with settings... I tried 300% scaling and can do it, but not entirely convinced there's enough IQ improvement to warrant having less overhead to deal with game behaviour. Bit of a shame as it feels like I have to leave potential performance of my gear on the table, just in case. 400% is just a no go at this res with high/ultra IQ settings with fps dipping into the 40's, but even that's still a HUGE improvement over my old rig. I did some testing in Cinebench R23 and noted a 2.2 fold increase in single-threaded performance and 3.2 fold increase for multi.
Couple things I'm dabbling with ... I can reproduce an FPS dip in cities with truck lights on vs off and somewhere in the neighbourhood of 5-10 fps (there are posts about this over in bugs that I might add to) ... B) Tunnels. Man! Even with a pretty solid rig now, tunnels at least in Iberia (haven't tried elsewhere yet) seem to have the potential for a MASSIVE fps hit at times. I have to confirm if it's only at night with lights on re: above and/or if it's a bug/collateral from the lighting changes, but wow. It can make a huge difference despite nothing really happening in a tunnel, unless it's a lighting interaction that's otherwise invisible ... C) I'm doing some experimenting with shadows that actually came from a ProMods recommendation (I'm not running any mods). Just sorting out the differences between the in-game settings re: shadows vs manual config file edits re: shadows, but it does seem to make a difference and help boost fps even further. Just seeing which shadows and/or shadow quality settings I miss and/or deem essential.
My takeaway at this point tho is that both ETS2 and ATS have matured in a manner that has a sizeable impact on performance/hardware requirements, so much so that long standing players may need to either substantially drop IQ settings or consider investing in new hardware. Perhaps less of an issue for single 1080p and maybe even 1440p players, but definitely impacting triples or high resolution players.

Curious that tunnels hit you so hard (I never checked myself, so no idea if it's something general). Curios because while inside a tunnel, the complexity of the 3D scene drops A LOT than compared with the open.
Re: specs for multimon triple monitor config
Exactly my thinking! And never noticed an issue before re: tunnels. Example here: [30/04/2021 20:24:44] (sec-0021+0014);-80391;33.2561;59735.5;2.99428;-0.0157723
I'll do some more testing and see if I can isolate to a specific IQ or scaling config, maybe post something over in bugs if I can.
Just happy to be truckin' again! It's such a chill hobby/experience, especially at night when the house is quiet.

Re: specs for multimon triple monitor config
Any hints for getting any kind of decent framerate on 1.40 with a GTX 1080 and 5760x1080? I bought the DLC and thought I'd do the Cruisin' Iberia event while I still had the chance, but I'm getting 22 FPS on Medium, with 100% scaling as of right now, whereas it used to be just under sixty on ultra with 200%. (I get about 40 outside of Iberia).

Re: specs for multimon triple monitor config
i have no luck either Winchester and i am on a RTX2080 Super, i used to emulate triples on my 32:9 monitor prior to 1.40 but i had to turn it off and just use multimon_0 with streched image again. it had 60fps with no problem before and now i am in a situation as you if i do tripples i is between 45-55 most of the time, where as with tripples off i have bang-on 60 fps all the time. i think SCS has to do some optimization because something has happend.

Hi there and @Truckdrivr too.Winchester1979 wrote: ↑04 May 2021 23:32 Any hints for getting any kind of decent framerate on 1.40 with a GTX 1080 and 5760x1080? Try taking a look at my earlier post in this thread, it may help.
fwiw...Incase you don't see my specs in my sig, or you have signatures disabled.
I run 27" triples and multimon2 on an i910920X - 64gb ram QC - evga titanX sc, which is older than your 1080 and I don't have any problems. Although as I mentioned in my earlier post, I had to compromise with some settings, but only a little.

ps. the first and most important thing to do if you haven't done it already is:
Search in the config files for a line: "buffer_page_size=10"
Change it to look like below
"buffer_page_size=30"
The config file you're looking for..
"config.cfg" can be located in, each and every 'profile folder' in: Documents\Euro Truck Simulator 2\Profiles\*numbers andor letters*.
Win10pro/X299pro/i9.10920X/64gbQC/Antec 1Kw SigPlat/3090 TUF/27" triples multimon2

Re: specs for multimon triple monitor config
I finally figured out what the problem was for me and oh my god it was so stupid I don't even have the words...Truckdrivr wrote: ↑09 May 2021 10:28 i have no luck either Winchester and i am on a RTX2080 Super, i used to emulate triples on my 32:9 monitor prior to 1.40 but i had to turn it off and just use multimon_0 with streched image again. it had 60fps with no problem before and now i am in a situation as you if i do tripples i is between 45-55 most of the time, where as with tripples off i have bang-on 60 fps all the time. i think SCS has to do some optimization because something has happend.
Windows was set to "Power Saver" under the power options, which restricted the GPU to minimum power.
I was getting 8 FPS in one spot in ATS at 1920x1080 on ultra, and no more than 35-ish generally, which was drivable but not much more, and occasional periods of 15 or so.
And then had a brainwave after much, much experimenting, and looked in the power options (right click the Start button, it should be the second option from the top in all languages). Then, under "Related settings" (fourth heading) you go to "Advanced power settings" which will open up the *old* control panel applet for power, and you can choose between Balanced, Power Saver, and High Performance. Mine was on Power Saver. As soon as I changed to Balanced, my FPS went straight up to 60 and stayed there. Even when I re-enabled my other monitors, turned on multi_mode 2, and cranked the settings up to Ultra in 5760x1080, I had rock solid 60 fps again.
It did get kind of loud though, as my GTX 1080 was running around 93% load and 70-72 C... but that's what headphones are for.

thanks man that sounds really great, I will defenitley try this out and look if i can do the same regarding the power, i didnt even know it was possible to control that, well says alot about my computer skills
will return once i have tried your solution

Re: specs for multimon triple monitor config
I can not get it fixed. I use 3 monitors with eyefinity. Ok, that works, but in the centre monitor I have big black stripe below of the truck´s cockpit.
Tried to make a screenshot, but the screenshot is like a panoramapicture. Any idea? And yes, I read everything I found about tripple monitor setup.
Maybe it is because the centre monitor is a widescreen?

What are the native resolutions of the three displays?
