Sounds Are Still Horrible...

#1 Post by OldVern » 19 Apr 2021 17:26

Having sorted out my controller issues, dived back in with a new profile and first run in an Iveco.
Very disappointed to find the truck engine sounds continue to sound so awful, all the deficiencies I found last playing some months ago are still there. No build up or spool down, very tinny etc. etc. My Kia Sportage has a better sounding engine than that!
When are SCS going to give this some love? It becomes very hard to find enthusiasm for buying more DLC when the audible driving experience is so poor.

Simply use mods. There are now sound mods for every truck in the game.

Fair comment, but kind of misses the point. Originally the default engine sounds were actually quite good until SCS mangled them in one of their updates. In 2021 you shouldn't have to rely on mods so the truck engines don't sound like they are coming out of a Gameboy... :)

Default sounds are what they are. While we still hold out hope that SCS will eventually remix their sound library, if you want a realistic sound you will have to supplement it with mods for the time being. Fortunately, there are many excellent quality sound packs available, and several modders have released packages that are nothing short of mindblowing in both mix quality and accuracy. So long as subsequent updates do not fundamentally break existing mods, I'd say we're actually in a very good place sound wise.

Look at the comments WOW. Close your ears and mute your game it'll be solved.

No....

SCS seriously should use Kriechbaum's sounds in their game.

I don't know what the vanilla sounds used to be like, since I have only recently starting playing ETS2, but the stock sounds are terrible, frankly. I reckon if it weren't for Kriechbaum, and his excellent suite of sound mods, I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as sucked into this game as I have.

Before FMOD they weren't that great either but it was bearable if you were going into TMP. When FMOD got introduced, it sounds like all the sounds for engines got neutered basically to just very basic sounds. Like to this day, it still disgusts me that the stock sounds basically go silent when you're off throttle rolling.... I did find it funny that when Kriech did the DXi motors, he used the SCS library on them and made it sound real

The engine sounds should be close to the real ones. SCS recorded many engine sounds from real trucks. So, where is the problem?

It seems they are messing and not mixing. :D ;)

And stock sounds before FMOD weren't better than now. They were plain and neutral: Actros=Man, Magnum=XF 105,...

Nonetheless, I'm glad with Scania R 2009 V8 engine sound. So, please don't touch it. :D ;)

Well, Volvo FH D13 and Man TGX I like them too (less than Scania one, of course). ;)

Most of the sounds they are using now are unique to the truck model. They used to recycle an interchange sounds between various manufacturers. This is certainly an improvement. So, any sound issues are usually down to mixing, not the sounds themselves. There's also the problem of SCS using a very limited number of samples to represent the rev range. Modders tend to be a lot more granular in their approach. Perhaps this is down to performance reasons. As I'm no expert, I simply don't know.
