Chassis Preference.

#1 Post by ToxicFumes » 02 Aug 2021 12:24

I was talking to a friend today who also loves the game and he sounded generally surprised when I told him I use the heavy haul chassis and haul both normal and heavy cargo because I know the heavy haul chassis can pretty much handle any kind of cargo, am I the only one who actually does this?

Honestly I just use the tried and true 4x2 layout. I can carry all the fuel then :)

And also you have a lot better maneuverability with 4x2. ;)

I have twin-steer! It is surprisingly "agile"!

not as agile as a 4x2, these trucks are not meant for every day use and this is why i dont drive them with a normal box trailer (visual clipping is also an issue for me)

i hate to admit it.. but yeah the 8x4 are not at thier element with normall trailers..
i think the clipping has something to do with the location of the fifth wheel..
on an 8x4 chassis is more forward to spread the weight over the 4 axles of the truck... compared to a 4x2 chassis where its only 2 axles

for grip the 8x4 is usefull as its not as twitchy as a 4x2 when i drive with keyboard as its hard to do smooth movements.. ( depending on the settings ofcourse) but a 6x4 or a 6x2 midlift will also do the job.. and also a 6x2 taglift is more agile then a 4x2.. when you lift the axle up ( when the load allowes you to) the wheelbase is shorter then a 4x2

6x4, even for heavy hauls, has worked ok so far, for me.

I was just wondering this from a game mechanic standpoint. Is it just a visual preference, or do the extra axles actually open up heavier loads at the market? Or do the extra axles only make it easier to haul heavier loads?

This might be the same question, but with everything else being equal (same HP/transmission) do the 8x4 and 6x4 actually accelerate faster than a 6x2 or 4x2? More powered axles and grip I would assume so, but again I don't know if that's an actual game mechanic or only visual.

ETS2 has a lot more axle configurations than ATS and I plan to haul a lot of b-doubles and HCT (I removed the restrictions so I can haul them in any country), so I want a lot power and grip. Maneuverability is important too, but I'm used to parking triples and turnpikes over on ATS with some trucks with a horrible turn radius, so I probably don't have to worry about that as much in ETS2 lol. My Globetrotter 6x4 is already way more maneuverable than anything I've driven over there. I only have 500HP though, so I need to unlock some bigger engines. Good to know there's a 750 available at some point.
