Small things count a lot indeed. But there's several things to consider about those "small things":tajana_g wrote: ↑06 Dec 2021 23:05uhm, small things count also, and some of the big immersion breakers in AI are not too hard to fix... like no trucks in a 3rd lane, no random lane changes, getting rid of the ridiculous merging behaviour... combine that with some 5S in the old coding and I am sure a standard CPU wouldnt notice.
1: That we could define what we want in a small amount of words doesn't mean it's a small or an easy task.
2: Even if one of those changes could be easy in itself, that doesn't meant to merge it in the current code would also be easy.
3: The current code is the result of around 12y of development squeezing till the last bit of performance. You are wrong if you think "a 5s clean" is going to improve its performance in any noticeable way.
4: I'm agree that most of the AI control suggestions we made would not make a modern CPU to sweat. Unfortunately, SCS actual code don't care we have modern CPU.
What you didn't understood is that I was not saying it's something very tricky, very difficult or that will take too much time to be done. It will be a tough work for sure, but nothing bigger or more difficult that lots of other things they have released already. What I said is that kind of improvements requires more CPU. Do we want better graphics? More CPU. Better physics? More CPU. Better AI simulation? More CPU. And currently, SCS games CAN'T get more CPU. As simple as that.
If we request them to improve AI traffic now, the CPU power needed for it has to be taken from somewhere else. Something has to be worsened. What are you willing to be worse in order to have better AI? That's the question you need to answer yourself when demanding they change those things now. If we are not willing to lose anything, then we have to wait for other things to be changed first: What it's needed to leverage the unused raw CPU power in our computers.
And that's a change they had been doing the last 3 years. That's the scale of the project, it's measured in YEARS, and we are not near the end (I would rather be very wrong, but I don't see any sign I am). We all will see other big changes in future updates (as big as they were DX11, FMOD or lighting for example); before SCS would be able to give us the AI we all want. It just couldn't be done before neither it's going to be done soon.
Regards

@Some newbie driver Are you sure that you do not mix up CPU and GPU? While I think certain settings in graphics of ETS2 can be quite GPU heavy, I do not think the current game is that CPU heavy. A standard PCs user often tends to underestimate a CPU by a lot...
My personal opinion is that the AI is actually quite the opposite of 12 years development and that in fact is the problem. Since the game experience proves it the AI coding can be described as max. rudimentary which must leave a lot of room for simple improvement... The three things that I stated in your quote can not be a challenge for a dev, especially since it is partly in the game already. Although that would be the only thing I would try to improve with the current coding. For the redesign I would straight forward CTRL+A & DEL the code. That is in my experience the best way to prevent clinging on outdated code architecture.
I would like to know from where you got the information that SCS games cant get more CPU? Without any judgement, I simply do not understand what that should mean.
Also I do not support the statement about trading performance ("it has to be taken from somewhere else", as you phrase it). If that was true I would still hold and Iphone 1 in my hands now and drive a Volkswagen Beetle to work
Also I wish I COULD demand changes to the AI, but I am not at all in a position to demand anything, especially not to demand anything "now" as you write.
But thank you for your opinion and answer, I am happy for any discussion about this topic.
Kind regards
