Whats faster: CSC or ZIP?

#1 Post by nikitasius » 22 Nov 2021 07:50

Hi,
For in-game usage whats faster in case of loading:
  • zip store
  • zip compressed
  • csc "store"
  • csc partially/fully gzipped
Guess due in-game conversion zip2hashfs you lose all "zip store" features?

The difference is measured in milliseconds.

Thanks for your answer <3
So there are no particular reason to keep mods in a "real CSC" except to complicate development for some folks who wanna learn "how-its-made" and get some ideas.

Glad to hear that perfomance is almost the same.

I've never heard of a "csc" file. What is this?
In any case, I wouldn't think there would be a difference in load times if there is no real compression involved (using "store" method), regardless of file type.
