Re: Oculus Rift - experimental support
So it's not just me. Disappointing that SCS would release something so obviously untested. I know it's a 'beta', but as far as I'm concerned, that had only ever been because it was unpolished, not completely broken.

VR mode is unofficial, so you can't blame SCS to have bugs in unofficial beta mod, wich developed by one guy in his free time.big_carrot wrote: ↑14 Jul 2021 06:13 So it's not just me. Re: Oculus Rift - experimental support
They're offering it as a semi-official option, and it's not unpopular. In fact it's got quite a bit of attention as a good VR game in its own right, and there's more than a few of us who play it because of its VR support. I'm not asking much, just that they test to make sure it doesn't have any catastrophic bugs before release - surely they've got automated tests?

Automated tests can only catch what you tell them to catch unfortunately

Re: Oculus Rift - experimental support
That's very true, though I'm surprised this wouldn't be caught by either an automated or manual test. If they released an 'oculus beta & open beta' branch, someone would've caught it before release, and it'd be a great way to allow the community to continuously test it, as I'm aware SCS' resources for doing that are limited.
Re: Oculus Rift - experimental support
To re-iterate the point, there is only one person who works on the VR beta, there is no 'they'.
This is also why you won't get a VR beta that also has the beta changes for the main version.

I mean, these sound like excuses for SCS to not commit. Again, appreciate that resources are limited and the VR support is a free aside to the main product, but if you offer a product even semi-officially, you should be willing to provide a little more support than saying 'not our responsibility'.

The other option is to pull it from the download list, would it be better?big_carrot wrote: ↑14 Jul 2021 09:12 ... you should be willing to provide a little more support than saying 'not our responsibility'.

Re: Oculus Rift - experimental support
That's exactly it, this is a side project by a single developer and SCS has never committed to it.

Re: Oculus Rift - experimental support
To pull the oculus branch would be petty and spiteful, and you know it.
You can see where I'm coming from - SCS do effectively release it under their own name, so they can't be surprised that people express disappointment to them when it's broken - and that's exactly what I'm doing. Nothing more.
