I think you simply got things mixed up and launched ETS in the hours allocated to play FSX

I took that screenshot early in the tumble...

After about six minutes of tumbling, the rig was rapidly spinning around the central axis about 500 RPM, traveling westward at about 12,000 MPH, and I'd gotten so many XP from the distance that I had 26 Unassigned Skill Points!

Thankfully this experiment was done on a "throw away profile" so it didn't affect me permanently.

I don't know about "easy," but I'm not the least bit interested in "cheats" anyway. What's the point?

What I want to know is:

1) When you eventually hit the ground, were you fined $400 for hitting anything important?

2) Were you able to drive the truck to the nearest garage, and if so, what was the bill?

There is no ground (beneath the ground). He lost ground and fell. And fell. And fell.

If you want to experience it yourself: Here you go. Console must be enabled.
  • press "0" key of main keyboard (for flycam)
  • lower your camera position a bit by pressing "3" on the numpad.
  • press F9
  • press "1" to get back to interior view
  • feel like Felix Baumgartner
  • play with different cameras

Never did hit the ground, so no option to tow to a garage and get fixed. I assume it would have been a total write-off anyway.

What actually happened though is that the sim crashed when it exhausted the memory allocation...

It happened to me as well, inside one of the cities. When I'm finally hit the street again, I have about 28% damage to the truck and about half of that on the trailer. Luckily I have saved just b4 this had happened...
The game do what it's supposed to do:
It keep me at home!
I would have paid twice as much for this sim - it's worth it.
