Better 6x2 Axles.

#1 Post by VOLVO_FH16_V4 » 23 Jun 2017 19:29

Hello, In real life we have a 6x2 Midlift we have two versions of this kind I will explain the difference.

6x2 Midlift (Non steer and liftable axle)
Basically a 6x2 as we already have however the middle axle (The one that lifts) does not steer.

6x2 Midlift (Steering and liftable axle)
Basically the one we already have the middle axle lifts and it steers.

Why is this a good idea?
Makes the game more realistic and the Non steer combination is more common in the UK
Most companies have them because the tires wear more on a steering axle.

I'm a mechanic for Volvo Trucks Wellingborough.

Cheers.

never seen a 6x2 midlift with a non steer axle that wouldn't make sense, because on a 6x2 the middle axel is the driven axle

and the one with steering is a 6x2/4, 6 "pairs" of wheels, 2 driven and 4 steerable (the front axle and the front pair of the 2 set axle hence the / )

In the UK tractors with small wheels on the mid axle are most often seen pulling tankers, but I must confess I don't know why ;) 6x2/2 with normal size wheels are probably the most common type in the UK due to the max vehicle weight of 44t.

yeah so a 6x2/2 with a normal wheel is non existent if it is non steerable because then it is basically a 6x4 or a 6x2 taglift

A 6x2/2 looks exactly the same as a 6x2/4. 2 tyres on the front axle, 2 tyres on the mid axle and 4 tyres on the drive axle. I always understood a taglift to be a non driven axle behind the driven wheels.

6x2/2 means 6 pairs 2 driven and 2 steerable the / means the first one of the 2 par axle is steered a * means the back axle is steered

taglift is like a 6x4 with only 1 driven axle and the last axle is liftable

@CARL1992 there is plenty 6x2 Midlifts with non-steering axles, an example Renault Premium https://goo.gl/images/R1RyZj
The are used mostly in tankers, and also non-heavy cargos. But you can also see them in normal cargo-haulin. And also you could get a pair of wheels (steerable you have only one set of wheels)

- They are not most common but they do exist.

What comes that "wheelbarrow´s" wheel (small) it comes just because of weight. Tractor unit usually hauls non-heavy cargors, but sometimes it can haul something with more weight, like tankers. (many of european countries max weight for 4x2 is 25t so that tiny tiny wheel lifts it up to 40t) (you can usually see those in mid-europe and uk).

----------------------------------------------

Why they are not in a game, can´t really answer that one. Maybe because gamemakers havent seen point of them in game, or physically in game it doesnt make any difference.

------------------------------------
Edit:
6x4 = you have two driven axles. There can be also 6x4*2 (like in SISU, or in Volvo - last driven axle does lift)
6x2 - its just a one axle-driven (back axle arent always lifting, 6x2 Can be midlelift or backlift, or nont lift (think about buses))
6x2/4 axle in front of driven is steering
6x2*2 axle behind driven axle is steering

(there can be different means with some of truckbrands but mainly they use these ones)

---------------------------------

Here´s a few examble what can maybe help:

ah ok

this picture i have seen too on wiki, it is good if you dont understand this "math formula"

but because of weight, i cant really believe it, here in germany a 4x2 with trailer is called 40ton so truck+trailer+load is max. 40ton or did you mean it like that ?
