More realistic trailer behavior/road surface

#1 Post by Kuszotke » 30 Oct 2017 16:11

Hey,

Here's a pretty unusual suggestion.
I'm wishing for more realistic trailer behavior. Currently, the trailers are way too calm. They are being pulled. And that's it. There's no shaking, no suspension movement, nothing. Not even axle whine. In real life, when you're driving behind a truck you see the trailer shaking, jumping and making all kinds of noises. The roads are uneven, realistic (duh, it's real life).
So here i am, suggesting doing something about it. I don't know how the game works, but this probably could be accomplished by modifying the suspension model or something?

In my opinion, it's caused by the roads being too perfect - there's no deformation, potholes, bumps, dips, waves, elevation changes. There might as well be no suspension model.

The trucks don't feel like trucks, when the cabin isn't shaking, suspension isn't moving and the trailer isn't jumping, know what i mean? They just feel like trains.

Soul-less,
dead,
trains...

Or maybe someone can make a mod that does something about that idk

cheers

I agree, it feels motionless.

Trailer stability slider has been available under gameplay option since ages. Moving it towards left will make the trailer that much unstable & moving it towards right, that much stable. Set it as per your liking. You'll see the trailer move just like irl when going over speed breakers (mostly seen at the company gates), brake at corners, etc.. Lower it all the way to the left and you are likely to tip over if you take a corner at high speed.

Looks like a drive on rails alright! :D But I do agree, some level of unevenness would be nice and it doesn't have to reflect through the in-cab view coz the air suspension of the seats + the suspension of the truck would absorb it.

I hope the suspension actually becomes a thing in the game soon. The game feels way too linear without anything moving. IMHO, ETS 2 is way nicer because of it. I would actually feel like playing ATS more often if it didn't feel so motionless.

In real life it sounds like there's a cannon fight, when a flat bed trailer drives. :D

But "cabin not shaking"? I played with and without a physics mod, and my cab shakes violently everytime i climb a loop ramp. (one that goes 180°) :?
