How would you like a realistic mode to be?

#1 Post by Some newbie driver » 13 May 2021 10:18

It has been discussed lots of times in those forums and other places if the game should be focused more into a "pure simulator" or to be more "arcade" focused to be accessible to a casual wide public. Lots of options in the game allow to tune it more towards one king or another; but with other details things aren't so easy. To avoid those problems, it has been a lot of times that the game would have two separate game modes; that could work differently and be a base of a more "arcade" or more "simulator" game experience.

Hard mode, pro mode, realistic mode... People call it in so many different ways. Whatever, the main point for this split in two modes to have any sense, the simulator one (that would be more strict by its nature) must enforce certain configurations that could not be changed. That's the whole point of it, one would choose to start a game profile in this mode to be forced to play in a certain way, to not to be able to take some shortcuts of a more casual game style. That game mode could then include things that aren't as easy to change as just "activate an option" and that SCS probably doesn't add to don't bother people that want the casual style.

But there's where everyone has their own opinions about which ones should be those enforced configurations. That's the reason of this topic: To share our opinions of which options must be enforced on a "realistic mode" and could not be changed. They could be either options that we already have in the game as like things you would like SCS adds to it.

Fast and easy examples:
- Traffic police and fines always enabled (as something we can chose to disable now)
- Max speed limits adapted to trailer and cargoes used (as something the game still doesn't have)

Hard mode should force way harder economy on all fronts, physics would need to be reworked (implement wind, wind resistance, tank splashing, and overall stuff like that)... I would bring back AI competition and prestige that old 18WoS Across America had... Implement challenging contracts that would be connected to your prestige, and companies would give it to you. If you dont finish it in time or you dmg cargo you would get penalty (and real penalty not like those tickets we have now), and prestige would go down, also any delivery outside of contracts would be connected to prestige, so if you (lets say) dmg your cargo or dont deliver it on time, prestige goes down... Low prestige would mean bad contract terms, and lower "price per distance" on regular cargo. Now when Im on dmg, cargo should be way more sensitive on it especially fragile one, truck parts and trailer too... Tickets needs to have impact on you and your economy, that means way higher tickets for bad driving so you would think twice if you want get one... There is lot of "hard mode" options, but those are basic ones in my opinion...

Also retiring the limit on the number of hired/generated drivers so AI companies could hire them. On this case, drivers would be randomly generated.

If wind were added, then finally we would feel the difference air deflectors make to fuel consumption

Well, wind should not be needed to make differences between air deflectors; as far as I know drag is one of the parameters used to calculate realistic fuel consumption. They just need to modify this value depending on our equipment in the truck and the kind of trailer hooked. I think that when NoDe31 talked about wind was thinking in that we could notice (and had to control) lateral wind pushing our vehicle out of the lane.

There's lots of places, mostly at the start of big bridges, where we can find wind indicators in the map. It would be nice they will serve a purpose.

The game would have two modes: Quick game mode and Career mode.

Quick game mode would be much the same Quick Job mode we already have. But it wouldn't affect your carreer - it wouldn't increase your money or your time, for example. It would be just a game mode where you would pick a truck and a cargo and go. The current "levels" mechanics could be applied here, where certain features would being unlocked as you progress, just to make the things more interesting.

In Career mode, you would start the game without owning a garage and with no money. To begin, you would need to head to a Recruitment Agency and see where someone needs a driver. As you have no experience yet, you only would be able to get a job in a garage where unskilled drivers were accepted. You would receive a random truck and would work just like our AI drivers in the current game. You would need to make some money as an employee to be able to buy a garage and a truck. If you don't have a good performance as a driver, you could be fired!

A job mode like 'Freight Market' would exist, but with the following mechanics: you would get to the company's depot, attach the trailer to your truck and do the delivery. In the recipient's depot, you would unload your trailer. Then, you would need to bring the trailer back to the sender.

Some companies, like Euro Acres or SellPlan wouldn't have their own trailers. Thus, in order to do deliveries from these companies, you would need to get there with an empty trailer and then loading it there.

Garages would be upgradeable to a logistics company, with a depot, just like LKW or Transinet.

That is all I can think for now. Probably there is more ideas that I can't remember now.

First thing would be the truck itself, Physics enhanced to make the truck harder to maneuver and operate.

And to improve damage, like adding brake wear and fade, and standalone damage rates for each axle
