Hey,
I've recently got a new gaming PC with Ryzen 5 1600 and GTX 1070 in it.
But for a system like this, I suspect the performance ingame is not so good as in other games. Had to lower the details, so it's playable in first person in a city. When I play, I can see that only one single thread is running on 100% and the GPU is running only on 40% of utilization. It's really annoying, since it's the only game that runs poorly like this.
So I was wondering, is there any chance that the game might get a better optimization for a CPU like this in the future? Or is there any mod or something else, that could improve the performace ingame?
Thank you very much for your replies.

Re: Low game performace on Ryzen CPU
This game was released back in 2012 on an already existing self developed game engine, the game has had many performance upgrades over time and we have seen three (iirc) model format changes in that time, so whilst performance has been tweaked and improved there are inherent limitations with such an old game engine most notably the fact it's still DX9, so I don't if they are going to be able to get that much more performance out of 'the old girl' but I'm sure they'll get everything they can out of it until one day I suppose they decide "you know what it's time to start working on ETS3 on DX12" or whatever.
I suppose what you need to ask yourself is how many other nearly 5 yr old games look and perform this well.

Yeah, you're definitely right. I suppose I'll have to stick with the performance for now. Thank you for your reply.

Look in Bios Option and disable SMT
Re: Low game performace on Ryzen CPU
What is SMT?...Where exactly is it?...What will it do to game play?...TNX

SMT = Simultaneous Multithreading = Intels Hyper Threading

Re: Low game performace on Ryzen CPU
Try using the OpenGL renderer. I exchanged my aging Phenom II for a Ryzen 7 last week and the game is definitely much faster on the new CPU, but then, I run the game on Linux, which only has the OpenGL renderer.
So I hope that ETS 2 never gets ported to DX12, Vulkan or OpenGL 4 would make much more sense for a multiplatform game like this.
EDIT: Keep in mind though that some mods inevitably crash the game when using OpenGL, since their still are a bunch of mods out there whose authors don't bother with OpenGL compatibility.
