game requests key in new win and don't accept it

#1 Post by hochdorf » 04 Dec 2017 13:59

I bought ETS 2 box version back in 2013 I think, or 2015. I played it a lot in the previous windows, which crashed last week after about 5 sweet years. I formatted and installed new windows. I reinstalled ets 2 and brought those old saves. The game asks for the cd keys. In my box there is 2- one for the game, and one to unlock going east dlc. Both don't work. I tried to uninstall and just put the old ets2 game folder, but it still asks for keys that it doesn't accept. Why? how to fix it?

Check the log. Maybe your game's folder (with profile, log, config and all that) is not at the location where the game expects it?

00:00:00.000 : [sys] Command line: G:\GAMES D\Euro Truck Simulator 2\bin\win_x64\eurotrucks2.exe
this is from the folder in my docs. So it looks fine, that is the adress. What else can be wrong?

Wrong folder, this is the installation folder, nothing personal. This will receive updates only with a patch, not when you play or change settings.

I'm talking of something that by default is somewhere in your documents folder. Where your profile/saves are.

This will be reported in the log. Look for something similar to

Code: Select all

00:00:00.550 : [ufs] Home directory: 'C:/Users/Reinhard/Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2'.
Then check if what your log reports is the same location than where you have restored your old settings.

The directory in the line I quoted has to match the directory where your profiles and everything related is located.

If it doesn't match, the game will not find your profiles, and don't find your save. And to begin with, it will ask for license keys. That's why I began asking questions.

in game.log in my document's ets's folder:
00:00:00.522 : [ufs] Home directory: 'C:/Users/roie/Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2'

apart from the 522 instead of 550 ,it looks fine. It points to the ets's folder in my documents, where the profiles's folders are.
What else could it be?

Did that 'C:/Users/roie/Documents/Euro Truck Simulator 2' that you restored after installing the new Windows, have had a file named "key.scb"? I assume this is where the keys are stored. But I can't tell for sure this is all you need.

I have no idea why the game doesn't accept the keys you type-in. It should, provided you can freely edit and create files in that folder.
