AMD 6900XT will lock 30FPS after turning on vertical sync

#1 Post by Glgaset » 10 Apr 2021 02:36

Hello everyone, my graphics card is AMD6900XT, I run the game with 4K resolution. After the vertical synchronization in the game settings is turned on, the FPS will be automatically reduced from 60FPS to 30FPS irregularly, and it will continue to stabilize at 30FPS. Switch to the map interface and then Returning to the game will return to the normal 60FPS, but it will turn to 30FPS after a short drive. There will be no such problem when the vertical sync is turned off, and the game FPS will run stably around 70-80. The graphics card driver has tried to replace 21.3.2 Optional and 21.3.1 Recommended, but the problem is not resolved. Are there any friends who have had the same problem? thank you all.

That's what vsync does. It locks your fps to something it can keep a stable rate at. Unless running uncapped is causing you issues, simply leave vsync off.

Hello, my monitor’s refresh rate is 60HZ. With vertical synchronization turned on, if the graphics card can stably output higher than 60FPS, it will stabilize at 60FPS, but if it cannot be stabilized at 60FPS and above in some scenes, For example, at 50FPS, it will automatically be reduced to 30FPS. Does it mean that?

Okay, thank you for your answer. In fact, I don’t really understand why the vertical synchronization option of Euro Truck Simulator 2 is like this. In other games, only the upper limit of FPS is limited, for example, the maximum limit is 60FPS to eliminate screen tearing. However, when the screen scene is lower than 60FPS, it will There will be no automatic reduction to 30FPS.

Have you checked that your monitor is running on 60 Hz?
My monitor (also a 4k) have 2 HDMI inputs, 1 with only 30hz and 1 with 60Hz.
If that’s the case, you might have put your hdmi cable in the wrong input on the monitor :)

Hello, the monitor must be running normally at 60HZ. You may not fully understand my problem. My problem is that the game will automatically reduce the stable 60FPS to the stable 30FPS in some scenarios.

@Glgaset

At first, don’t qoute the reply just over your own post.

At second, you know for a fact that your monitor is running 60Hz refresh rate? - have you looked at that in the windows setting?

The game detects the refresh rate from windows OS. So when you set vertical sync to on, it asks Windows OS what the current refresh rate it is running between the graphicscard and the monitor.

So check with your manual to your monitor if there is locked refresh rates on the different hdmi inputs to your monitor.

I hope you understand it.

Lately I sometimes get this 30 FPS limit with an AMD graphics card too (with vertical sync on). But after restarting my computer when this situation occurs, the game goes back to the 60 FPS limit
