1.42 FFB for Logitech G920

#1 Post by chaplindev » 22 Oct 2021 19:35

After updating to 1.42 my experience with the force feedback has been very bad, I have problems especially when turning the steering wheel, sometimes the centered car makes jumps that make it impossible for me to keep the truck under control. I would like to know if there is any configuration recommendation for these new options that were added and to get an experience similar to what I had with version 1.41.

I'm facing similar problem with my G29. Whenever I turn the steering from left to right, there is a sticking point when it reaches the centre. I'm not able to get a smooth continuous feel.

Also when I keep it at the centre, its constantly twitching, jumping and shimmying which are all unrealistic feedbacks, so I don't believe they are intended.

One suggestion is to put the physics suspension slider all the way to the right.
Give it a go and let us know how it goes please.

This is definitely giving a noticeable improvement for me. If I combine this with slightly lower feedback gain then my 'sticking-and-jumping-in-the-centre' issue almost goes away.

I also had the suspension slider set to 0.5 (in the middle). Setting it to the right does not improve it much. I have a Logitech G29 and at high speeds (65km/h and more ) there is a sticking point around the center. At low speeds it feels a lot better.

The problem is that at high speed it is to easy to make a sudden movement because 1: the initial steering feel around center position is so weak and 2: to get past the sticking point you need to apply a bit of force. This makes driving smoothly very difficult.

Leen's settings are also helping. If I combine Leen's settings with suspension all the way to the right, that gives slight further improvement for me for sticky centre. But it does make the steering quite light.

Also on an unconnected note, the Engine Resonance makes the steering vibrate only when you're turning it, not when its stationary (like I think it used to do before?).

While experimenting with the settings I came up with a setting in which my wheel shakes/vibrates about 30 degrees left/right when driving at 85km/h. That was with "Overall gain" at 3/4 and "internal friction" to 1/4. That gave me the realization that the overall gain drives the centering and the internal friction does the dampening.

With that knowledge I made the following setup to to minimize the bump feeling around the center when driving at 85km/h:
- suspension stiffness all the way to the right.
- steering sensitivity at 1/2 (in the middle).
- steering non-linearity at 0 (all the way to the left).
- overall gain at 40% (a little to the left of the middle setting).
- All others at default.

And the "overall gain" al little less than the default did it for me. That minimized the bump/stickiness at center to a very acceptable level.

I want the old FFB back, that was pretty good, not perfect but good. The new FFB is an absolute horror and ruins the entire simulation. i cant understand, why the developers do that.

@Pandemik As has been explained many times the old FFB was faked and did not work well with many wheels. The new FFB is properly physics calculated and works better with more wheels. The old FFB isn't coming back.
