has anyone had any luck with creating a perspective correct 3 monitor view using the new "r_multimon_mode 2" code update?

I've played around with it but the three views aren't playing nice with each other :? my FOV adjustments don't seem to be much use either.

for what we were testing, with 3 screens we have here proper camera fov is around 50. it looked quite awesome as this makes quite real 150 degree view.
generally, sit on your chair, guess/measure angle of all three screens in front of you, take one third of that angle, and set result as camera fov. then tweak bezels (r_multimon_border_fov_right/left) and you got it.

unfortunately in that case you cannot probably see whole front window and dashboard at once as you would probably need like 50% higher screens. as one possible solution we introduced telemetry output where you can export all relevant values to third party application and draw the dashboard for example onto you tablet, that you can put below the central monitor .. :)
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.

ok, yes, it does look quite awesome :) no doubts! really excited to see the progress of this game and knowing that you guys are definitely working to make it better :) and what you say about the telemetry output, no kidding? I dont have a tablet of anykind, just my G19 LCD on my keyboard... makes me think that I want a tablet now LOL unfortunately some of the more technical things (especially this) is way beyond my level of skill

I'm not sure, but when I look around I get the feeling that not just the FOV has changed, I feel like I'm sitting closer to the windshield. like maybe if my point of view were back a few feet I'd see more? this seems simplistic and there's probly an error to my thinking. can that even be done? move the view back? or would I be looking at the back of my drivers head?

this is what I'm seeing. seems too close, like I've stuck my forehead to the glass :D

also, reason why I was having difficulty understanding this was I expected the angles to be a constant, like it is with the stock camera view. above the center of the view things warp upwards, and below they warp downwards. I drew highlights in pink and white to illustrate.

regardless, you guys rock :) keep up the great work!

following this with interest.

Got it to look ok by changing my FOV to 50 for the DAF I was driving, then brining up the console and adding

r_multimon_border_fov_left 4
r_multimon_border_fov_right 4

This straightened out things for me. The default value is 0, each one moves the right/left screen slightly in relation to the center screen. I do not mind the FOV as I use TrackiR.

And after all that, we need a global zoom function to return the view to the default. I am not sure if this is worth all the effort as I never had a problem with thw fisheye, probably due to the use of TrackiR which meant my view is never static.

After testing, and doing a video here are my thoughts.

1. The FOV on the side monitors is too wide. I set my FOV to 50 and I could "see" 180 degrees. Maybe if you set the FOV to x, the sides use x/2.

2. The side adjustments kind of make sense, but do not in reality. I just found you can set -4 as well as 4 and use negative numbers. If you use positive it pulls the sides around to the front. If you use negative numbers, it pushes the sides away from the front. But this then allows duplication in the border area and you see your interior mirror rendered twice.

3. The sense of speed drastically changed, and in my mind for the better. Everything is slowed down and seems more like real time speed, rather than game time. I like this aspect a lot, the truck view is more realistic I think.

4. If there was a global zoom function , you could set your FOV to 40, get 120 degrees, and then zoom out to allow the sides to stretch even further and the top and bottom to expand to the original stretched view. As people are using up to 400% rendering, is this not possible? The engine renders at 200% and takes what it needs to put on the screen?

5. The dashboard is odd. If you are looking out driving, it is not straight as pointed out above, but if you tilt and look straight at it, it is straight. It is as though the lines from left to right across the center in terms of height of your screen is rendered straight, but the lines left to right further away from the center either up or down get warped. so the lines kind of curve from top left, to center center to top right and same inverse for the bottom part. In essence, the fishbowl effect.

6. In the video, you can see the splits between the three screens being rendered. This is where my Bezels are and I do not see this in game. If you take each of these "panels" they are all 192081080 on a 24" monitor. If you blew them up to real size, its is five feet across.

Anyhow, here is a video of it on my system. I have reverted to the standard view stretched across three for now.

Picture of outside view of truck.

Small http://sdrv.ms/11llB7E
Large http://sdrv.ms/11llTvf

(wont work as img)

I think this highlights the problem. If you look at the object in the distance, in the center screen it is level, in the left it angles down 40 odd degress, same on the right. If these were levelled off, so it was not so severe an angle, it might help the whole feel of the multimon aspect.

I have changed my mind on this. The change of FOV from 77 to 40 means that the vanishing point moves closer. Everything seems slower and your sense of speed disappears. But in prolonged use, its kind boring tootling about at 12kph (or so it feels like). I also found parking much harder, cant judge distances as good. And when turning, it feel like the truck is sliding sideways rather than turning. At normal FOV, you turn one, move forward one, turn one move forward one. With the reduced FOV, you turn two for every one forward, and it can lead to over steering and a odd sense of crabbing.

Since my graphics card support 2 monitors display only, I have to use the feature provided by the motherboard to enable 3 mon display and applying a software called sothTH to display in 3 monitors in game. I can run the game with uset r_multimon_mode "0" and "1", but not "2",the game just kick me out when loading the driving screen.
I can run rFactor by this config without problem.
I understand my situation is not common but just hope if there could be any solution without changing my graphic card. 8-) 8-)

Re: How can I fix the stretched look on Eyefinity side monit

#29 Post by ChristianS » 02 Mar 2014 20:51

9 Months has passed.

Has anybody had any luck trying to make 3 screens behave?

I finally got my 3rd monitor and found that approaching an intersection is wierd, to say at least. The street to the left should show up at 90 degrees, but looks more like 135.

When I turn I get dizzy, the picture races past like crazy

Seems like the 2 side monitors should cover double as many degrees of fov as the center.

Or if I could only make the side monitors show their pictures on only half of the screen width.

What fools me, is that when I had only two monitors, the left monitor showed all the way past the rear end of the side window.

this was alredy answered in this thread.
Nobody can tell you anything about it. Those who know about it aren't allowed to talk. And those who talk know nothing.
