Is the automatic retarder option a new one? Or is it because I had to set up a new profile FOR 1.30.x?
If its an old option then I obviously forgot that I needed to BREAK (un-tick) the automatic retarder so that it would act like a BRAKE!
Miss the whining sound though.

Due to all respect, but switching of auto retarder and drive only with the retarder stick, is so obselite and out of the time.
In these days some truckdrivers whining because all the technology. I don't understand that. We don't live in the seventees! Come on!
Satnav is now very common, so whining because the satnav and not using the old fashion road maps is in my opinion not speakable. "But", some says, "in the old days truckdrivers did." Yes, but that was then and not now. So, with the retarder is the same case.

Elmer, only difference between auto and non-auto is that with non-auto you have to set it, which is what I would do, otherwise it would kick in anytime you lift off the throttle.
And what about that engine brake? Is there any indicator? Do the strength levels matter and work?

I don't think anyone uses the electromagnetic brake mounted on the propeller shaft these days. Haven't seen a Thelma brake for ages (Thelma brake is the original name for those), all truck manufactors uses a concept similar to the Voith retarder. It don't really need a special sound tho, you can barely hear them when activated anyway.
Edit: Additional info. Iveco hse ZF transmissions so when you buy an Iveco with a retarder you get the ZF Intarder

auto retarder works only if you brake the retarder brakes with your service brakes and you can set it manually on downhill roadsdropadred wrote: ↑10 Dec 2017 19:39 Elmer, only difference between auto and non-auto is that with non-auto you have to set it, which is what I would do, otherwise it would kick in anytime you lift off the throttle.

Oh, this is getting too complicated.
Bora, so basically only thing I need to use is a retarder then? I mean it was always enough, so I am fine with it, but I wanted to ask anyway.
And wish me luck, tonight I am diving into Italy.

Yes but I use the ACC mod and it keeps my speed under control when going down hill. No foot on the gas here!

I use CC to control my speed once i reach 20mph. I only recently tried auto retarder not knowing what it did & i like it.
