Merging onto interstate highways

#1 Post by HammerlaneHippie » 20 Jan 2019 13:23

To be blunt, I'm tired of paying for damages to my rig because AI traffic won't move over and let me merge into traffic.
Maybe this has already been fixed and I just don't know how to correct it yet If it has, will someone please tell me how. If it hasn't can we get a mod to place a trigger on the ramps to make traffic move over?

What I do is I drive up the shoulder, keeping over so I don't get hit and keep an eye in the mirror, the traffic in the near lane will stop and you can merge.
I agree though, would be nice if they moved over.

you run some traffic mod?
in the beginning of ATS the traffic from behind was terrible.
now most times there is no traffic behind or in a distance so i can drive on the highway.
only a few roads i have to lock and then move fast or do slow to not ram them.

I too have gotten in to the habit of doing this. It just makes everything easier.

If you stop on the actual slip road then you will never get going again because traffic will never give you a gap big enough.

I have thought that it would be really cool if traffic would notice you coming down the slip road and either move over to create a big enough gap for you or slow down and flash their lights to let you pull in.

I've tried driving on the shoulder but it's really a tight squeeze where there are guardrails. Especially whereas I don't yet have a steering wheel controller yet. I'm still using a mouse and keyboard.

Ah well, why should traffic in the sim behave any better than traffic on real roads? If some idiot wants to get between a 130,000 lb double articulated truck and a guardrail when it's making a right hand turn maybe they deserve to have their shiny little machine shredded into scrap. It's just sad that the trucker has to pay for the damages to his rig and cargo.

Wayfarer, it's not as "nice" as a wheel, but I highly recommend getting a gamepad, they're pretty inexpensive. I have an Xbox controller I just plug in via USB, but you can get a logitech for 20-30 bucks.

Thanks, but I just now ordered a Logitec G29 wheel, pedals, and shifter.

I thought they were simulating the real traffic in the US southwest highways.
Seems everyone loves riding all day in the right lane and never letting anyone in from the on-ramps. ;)
