Drivers always drive the same route

Hi folks!

Little question: I noticed that each one of my drivers uses solely the same shipping routes...! For example Vienna - Edirne, Edirne - Vienna, and so on. Another one Frankfurt - Pescara, Pescara - Frankfurt, a.s.o. Always the same routes. Is that correct that way? Did you guys notice the same thing?

Source and destination of cargoes has limitations (each cargo can only be dispatched or received on some companies). If you combine that with not-completely upgraded drivers (is that your case); they could have the available cargoes limited to a subset of the whole available job market. That can easily cause some drivers to stick to certain routes for quite time.

But my drivers are meanwhile level 5.0 to 5.8 with pretty much skills... and they bring in quite good money... So that's not the point, I just wonder why they obviously don't change their routes, at least sometimes. In previous versions, when I had a look at the logbooks, there were quite different routes they had made.

It could be other reasons not so obvious. Maybe limitations on the AI scheduler if certain conditions are meet. Or maybe some mod you could be using if that's the case.

Also I think the AI drivers took always the most profitable job on the market to which they could opt to. Depending on the mix of companies on a city, you could see them always taking similar jobs because any other would be significantly less valuable.

This started happening in 1.36. Drivers now seem to prefer the longest route available and will rarely (if ever) take a shorter one.
This results in them frequently only travelling to the one city and back.

That explains it clearly!
Hadn't noticed that in 1.36, 'cause I had a profile with an enormous amount of money and Level above 135..., so I had no reason to control my drivers...
With 1.37, I started a brandnew profile and I've slowly worked my way up. So I more often take a look at my driver's logbooks.
Meanwhile, I'm at level 37 again, after all!

I did report this as a bug some time back (it actually seems to have started with v1.35) but I've never had any feedback from SCS on it.

I have been micro managing skills on some drivers, like some that I have put in older trucks that I wanna keep out of Cali or if I want someone to just do logging, or try... I just make sure they got low skill in distance and put them far away from California...

But yeah, they tend to just go as far as they can generally it seems. Wish we could set up routes and lock them to a trailer or some companies... more management!

Longer routes give always better price per km; so it's easy to understand why drivers tent to take longer routes usually. Only if they find a high payed cargo (due any combination of urgency, dangerous, value or fragility) on a lower route they will change.

At the end, the whole AI is very simple and it's there more as a decorative than anything else. The actual purpose of having AI drivers is just to have enough income so we can but whatever we want whenever we want.

There's no point in keep asking small changes or fixes when the whole system deserves to be redone from scratch if we want anything else that isn't a big number in the bank account.
