Re: Forum Discussion/Suggestion Thread

I just wanted to mention a couple of things that I have noticed as a moderator that normal users wouldn't be able notice.

The first one is using coloured usernames with the mention feature. If you're mentioning a administrator, moderator, senior beta tester, junior beta tester, or staff member, make sure you put the name colour tags on the outside of the mention tags. If you put them on the inside of the mention tags, the person you are trying to mention will not receive a notification. An easy way to tell is if the at symbol also bears the colour of the username. Here's an example.

This is with the colour tags inside of the mention tags. The notification system will NOT work this way.

@Max

Code: Select all

[mention][cstaff]Max[/cstaff][/mention]
This is what it will look like with the colour tags outside of the mention tags. This will send a notification to the user mentioned.

@Max

Code: Select all

[cstaff][mention]Max[/mention][/cstaff]
The next thing pertains to reporting double (and sometimes triple) posts. The moderators would like to thank those of you who report posts that violate the rules. We can't be everywhere at every time, so it really does help us out. There is one thing about reporting double posts though. The forum automatically saves all of the reports that have been closed, so we have a record of everything should that information be needed. There's one exception though. If a post gets deleted, all of the reports attached to that post also go away. This is why it would be more preferable if when reporting double posts, users used the report button on the first post rather than the second (or sometimes third). Here's an example.

I setup this example thread to show this. Here I have a double post, and the second post is reported.

Here's the log of this report being dealt with. The report was closed and the double post was deleted. However, the report was also deleted with the post, so it can not be reviewed if it needed to be.

Here's the same scenario with the first post being reported instead.

Here's the log of it being dealt with.

As shown here, even after it's been dealt with, this report still shows up in the list of closed reports. That way, we still have a record of it in case we need it.

Unless something has changed, reports that are already closed are not deleted when the post is deleted. Only open reports are deleted.

@Mohegan13 It seems that it does not do that anymore. If you check the closed reports, the reports from my example above do not exist because those posts were deleted.

That's an good feature,useful to use if two users(one moderator or an admin and another normal registered only)have the same name so if I'd to mention the moderator or admin with that name i'd use the cstaff mention [moderator-admin_name].

cstaff mention does nothing, the mentioning system doesnt care in wich group the user is, [ cstaff ] is just the bbcode for the html code to color text

also, it isnt possible to have 2x the exact same name, so if you mention a user you can only mention that one regardless if he is an admin, moderator or normal user

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of SCS guys actually disable the notification system because some people do abuse it.

I'm sure it's already on the "wishlist", but now since the forum has a Top button visible in every post, could we also have a button (or a similar function) that does the opposite?

The top button is a phpBB feature that's coded into the board.

However I was able to find this mod: https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/exte ... roll_page/

Seems to still get updates.
