Hired driver management....

#1 Post by Aozhoulaowai » 04 Aug 2020 14:42

ANYONE in transport knows that if your going from A to B, you need to bring something from B back to A. This is just a fact. But right now, your hired drivers are literally completely randomly selecting jobs and completing jobs and the amount of times " your driver couldnt find a job and had to return empty " is just ridiculous and in a " simulator " is outside of the realism( definitely more than 10% chance for me ). How do you give any incentive for exploration, purchasing additional depo's or vehicles or hiring drivers when even a 3.3 level driver is still only making 4,000 Euro's a day... ( if your lucky ). Return on investment is literally solely on the player as you are the only one who can make a logical decision on selecting a load. Then you have to spend hours grinding long distance trips to make good on your loan payments because you have 4 drivers and 4 vehicles and a daily repayment of 12,000 euro's a day but all 4 drivers only average 10,000.......... like cmon....

You have written in your game description that you can control the direction you want your transport company to go in... but where is the control? Stat building the drivers ( for instance long distance/fragile cargo ) doesnt even guarantee that they will take a load they " specialise " in and earn a decent return ( most hired drivers take around 30-40% of load costs ). I could accept the current state of how drivers are managed if levelling drivers actually had meaning. EG Driver has lvl 5 long distance and lvl 5 high value cargo, this averages out ( using my own job selection ) most jobs at around .30EU/km and rougly 30,000 euros for a 10-15 hour job. So with most hired drivers taking around .10-11c per km, i should see returns of around 15-18K per job.... but the highests i have seen now with one of my 3.3 drivers is 10,000.... and its maybe 2-3 times a week they bring that much in.

Realistically, as a driver working for a company, you are told by the company what job you will be completing...

I have two, VERY simple solutions for you, please implement one of them or even both for those players who dont really want to micro-manage.

1. Driver completes job, Player needs to select next job for the driver. this then puts the maintenance control on the player as well, since drivers only maintain the trucks when they return to the depo. You can continue to give drivers jobs until you want them to maintain the truck. And i think you should only be able to send drivers on a job to a location nearby( within 200-300kms) the assigned depo location. EG Driver based in Calais France, takes job to Berlin Germany, Cant find a job directly back to Calais, but there is a job to Paris. Driver completes job to paris and then returns to depo for job selection. thiss would literrally be the same job screen UI available to players now, just allowing the player to delegate which job the driver takes.

2. Owning multiple depo's brings the benefit that, even if the driver is not asssigned to that depo, they can still select a job that takes them back to a city that has a company facility in it, thus broadening the opportunity for loads and for drivers to automatically become more usefull.. ( although my point about drivers not making the bests use of their skills still stands and needs to be addressed ) EG Driver based in calais, gets job to berlin. Arrives in berlin, there is no job back to calais, but there is a company depo in london and there is a job available from berlin to london. driver can deliver the load from berlin to london and maintain the vehicle once arriving in london. I realise that the 10% chance of not finding a job is objective realism, but i think once you have 5 trucks operating, you are kind of past the more simple thinking of private operators or small companiess..

The second solution is probably the easiest for you to implement.

I understand, its a driving simulator, the idea is that we are out driving around ( which i love btw, i grew up in a family transport company but never ended up driving for a job )

But when a concept in the game is just so broken it really bugs me.

I second that!

AI hired drivers are there to help us.

Delegating jobs to our drivers would be useful to make our company more profitable.

AI drivers already take the most profitable routes they find available each time and yes, their abilities matter for that because they change the income from the cargoes to be selected. And with such an absolutely unreal and easy economy of the base game, the income will NEVER be a problem and you will have more money than the one you would never could spent. 4.000€/day seems you low profit with low-medium trained drivers? Don't worry then because those figures will keep raising a lot.

A diferent story is if you complain about the "tyconn" part of the the game. Then, in that case, there aren't options. Done. Yes, really the game is ultra-basic in that point, something that has ben requested to improve lots of times. But for the moment, SCS keeps their efforts in the driving experience of the game. The AI drivers are there just to bring us enough cash so we have not to matter at all for not having enough money for any change in our trucks any moment.

Please no micromanagement at all, besides it has been common driving empty back in the days
In Denmark we have a general problem with foreign drivers camping the most odd places waiting several days for a new load

As mentioned, at some point in the game you have more money than you ever can dream off
In ETS2 my balance says + €400 mill

Balance is the least important for me. I don't even know what is my balance. What I want/like to see is my garages with 100% of productivity at end of week. That is my point.
