PSUs are most efficient at ~50% usage, but just a variable when buying, not critical at all. I agree with the reasoning that 2060, even 1660ti is enough for 1080p. Unless perhaps heavy usage of ray tracing actually becomes relevant. But that would not be trucksim any time soon.

The motherboard, Corsair PSU, Corsair Liquid cooling, and both HDDs were all purchased from Micro Center.
Yeah that's very similar to what I want, except I thought the 1650 Super held it back a bit, so I'm trying to squeeze my way into a 2060. I'll settle for a 1660 Super if I can't find a deal on a 2060. Why'd you chose the 1650? Also @Some newbie driver talked me into 3600 speed RAM otherwise I would have went with 3200. I figure the 3600 will be more important later when I want to upgrade. I haven't bought a motherboard yet, so maybe I'll take a closer look at the B550's. I've been watching the price on a couple of X570's.

1080p is the goal, but I got a 144Hz adaptive sync monitor, so I'd like to take advantage of it, and I don't think the 1660 Super is quite good enough. A 30 series is definitely over powered for what I'm trying to do, so I'm not even thinking about it. The 2060 is the sweet spot for this particular build, but at $330 that's a little more than what I want to pay, so I'm waiting for a sale.

For the RTX 3070 or 3060 you can get by with 650W
You will need new cables or adapters though
I think you can even get by with a 600W PSU with the 3070. They recommend 650W but if you're not doing any overclocking I think 600W should be plenty. Just watched a Gamers Nexus video on power supply and 600W is more than enough to handle a R9 3950x/2080ti build, and the 2080ti requires 30 more watts than a 3070. And why do you think new cables or an adapter would be necessary for a 3070? It requires an 8 pin connector, and I believe most PSU's come with 2 8 pins (or 6+2). The 3080 and 3090 require 12 pins, but they come with a 16 to 12 pin adapter so you could use the 2 8 pin, if the PSU is 750W or more, which mine is not lol, but I don't plan to own one of those beasts anytime soon.

all nvidia founders edition card need a 12 pin cable, but they put an adapter into the box, also, custom designs will most likely stay with the 2x8 or even 3x8 connector

Well I see why the R5 3600 keeps going up in price lol. Even at $210, 4 places that I've checked are now out of stock. They're selling like hotcakes even at the high price. It's the most popular CPU on the market. Which makes no sense because I can get a 3600X for $210 too. The 3600XT is $240 so I'd get that before I got a regular 3600 at $210. I might be waiting until Black Friday after all @Some newbie driver lol. For like 10 seconds the other day I saw it down to $175 on Amazon, until I refreshed the page and it was back to $200.

Yep, you're right. I saw an article that said the 3070 was only an 8 pin, but I see on the Nvidia site that it has a 12 pin like the 80 and 90. Which is still fine for most PSU's that come with 2 8 pin connectors. I don't think anyone is going to SLI the 30 series, which doesn't even look possible, so you don't need the extra 8 pin for anything lol.

only the 3090 can do NVLink, and even without NVLink, cards with 3 connectros exist

That has been the usual marketing strategy of NVidia since... ¿forever?

I can't imagine why someone would want to run NVlink with the 3090 other than to break records. At that point the limits of your vision would be the bottleneck lol. Gonna need a bald eagle eye transplant to take advantage of such a system. Does a PSU even exist that could handle it?

Reignman, I bought the parts because of price and was told they would work fine.... when at the Micro Center store up in PA. For the graphics card and AMD CPU, no one at Best (Worst) Buy here in DE made any comment on how good or bad my choice was. One person that helped me said the 750 watt PSU would be a smart purchase. And they didn't have much to choose from, plus their prices were outrageous even with DE no sales tax. Even with sales tax in PA I saved money. So for anyone thinking of buy computer parts from Best Buy... stay away from their stores. They didn't even have any Windows 10 cd/dvds or USBs with 10 on it in the store here. It was also pretty sad that they had AMD CPUs but no AMD motherboards... Intel only and prices were thru the roof.

Professional workloads that will require more raw power than the one delivered by one single of those cards. And yes, that exist. They aren't cards aimed at all to the gaming(like they were not previous Titan models), even if some people with zero money concerns wants to waste it purchasing them for their game rig only to boast.

About PSU, of course there are several beyond 1000 and special cases with multi-PSU arrangements for that kind of professional rigs; similar as how server enclosures are made.

Regards

PS: Even living at the other side of the pond, I've heard in the past about how atrocious are the computer section on Best Buy stores.

You're not lying there. Micro Center usually has the best deals, and as you said, they're very helpful. "Worst Buy" is always trying to convince you to upgrade to something more expensive or sell you an extended warranty lol. Wow, they really push those warranties. That pre-built that I bought back in 2002 at Best Buy, I had 4 different associates try to convince me to get the warranty. The first sales guy who helped me, then another guy who came up to me on my way to checkout, then the checkout person, and then one last time at the damn door as I was leaving lol. I told them all, I buy a new PC every year so why would I pay $100 for a 3 year warranty? I think that was the last PC I bought from them.

My current PC, which I built 12 years ago, I built at a Micro Center. Like you said, they're very helpful. Made sure all my parts were compatible, they didn't try to convince me to upgrade to something I didn't want/need, and they didn't push any warranties on me. Unfortunately I no longer live near a Micro Center, and 90% of their parts are in-store only. I even emailed them about it, but they can't ship certain parts. I think that's why they offer the low prices. Get you in the store so you buy everything else from them.

"Best Buy" used to live up to their name and in fact always had the best buy, back when they only had Circuit City to compete with, but they never have the best buy anymore. Tiger Direct is online place that used to be tough to beat in the price department too, but OMG everything is overpriced there now. I don't know how they stay in business.

I just saw a PSU at 2000W haha, so yep they exist.

BTW, since the R5 3600 has been selling out everywhere at $200-210, Amazon has just started selling them for $238 lol. It's absolutely crazy watching the price of these sky rocket right before my eyes. Just a month ago I was complaining about $180. Amazon is selling the 3600X for $215 so I don't know WTF is going on. They're also selling the 3600XT at the same price as the regular 3600. That makes the X look like a great deal, but I'm still not going to pay $215 for it. I would get the R7 3700X for $290 before I did that. I still refuse to pay more than $180 for the R5 3600. And now I hear AMD is going to announce or launch gen 4 the first week of October, so geez, I'll probably be waiting until then to get a CPU xD. All these school kids must be buying up the 3600's at these crazy high prices.
