Sculpture of the mammoth - Monument "Vremya". Монумент "Время" (Мамонт).

The sculptural composition "Time" is a life-size sculpture of a mammoth, welded from various pieces of metal and mechanisms. It is located on the northwestern periphery of Magadan, on the shores of Nagaev Bay. The author of the composition "Time" is the sculptor of Magadan Yuri Rudenko. The sculpture weighs 6 tons, its height is 4 meters and its width is about 6 meters.

Mask of Remorse (Маска Скорби)

Explanation of the monument.
In 1996, a monument to the victims of the political repression of the Stalinist regime, the "Mask of Sadness", was inaugurated on the Krutaya hill in Magadaan, far east of Russia. The mask is on a hill and can be seen from all over the city of Magadan, the sculpture is very impressive and seems to be "looking" at the city.
The central sculpture of the memorial represents a human face. The eyebrows and nose form a cross, from one eye a tear runs down, from the human faces (expressing sadness for the victims of the Stalin regime), and the other eye represents a window with a lattice and a bell that strikes and resonates (when there are especially strong winds) in remembrance of souls.
The monument is located 200 meters above sea level. The "mask" sits on a 56 square meter high pedestal, which is constructed of monolithic reinforced concrete. The height of the monument itself is 18.5 meters, 100 steps lead to it.

Inside the monument, there are fragments to know: fragment of an industrial concentration camp zone - "Gulag", an exact copy of a '' solitary '' prison cell of '' Gulag '' time of Stalinism, were reconstructed .
There is also a large map of Russia, which says written in Russian that many people died in the regime's camps.
The sculptor Ernst Neizvestny planned to create three of these monuments and create the "Triangle of Sorrow" (in the main cities of the GULAGs of the Soviet communist regime). In 2017, another 'Mask of Sorrow' 'was opened near Yekaterinburg. The third mask in Vorkuta has never been created, until now. The cultural artist, Ernst Neizvestny, whose parents were victims of political repression, received the State Prize for Russian Federation for his work at the memorial, artifacts for the exhibition were delivered from the concentration camps of: Dneprovsky (Днепровский), Butugychag (Бутугычаг).
On the hill, there are 11 individual concrete block listings, with the names of the concentration camps'GULAG '' in Kolyma: Dneprovsky (Днепровский), Butugychag (Бутугычаг), Dzhelgala (Джелгала), Maldyak ), Dagger (Кинжал), Khenikandzha (Хениканджа), Kanyo (Каньон), Maglag (Маглаг), Elgen (Эльген), Severny (Северный).
At the site of the installation of the mask sculpture (monument), during Stalin's time, there was a "Transitka" (a sorting post from which prisoners were sent to different concentration camps in Kolyma under the Stalinist regime).

These locations hundreds of thousands of Russians were murdered by the Stalinist ideological regime. Every year, on October 30, '' Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Political Repression ''.

History:
During World War 2, a route was traced in the skies over Russia, over Chukotka, Kolyma and Yakutsk, along which Soviet pilots carried American Alaska fighter planes received under the Allied military aid program: ''Lend-Lease''.

The monument is dedicated to the Heroes of '' ALSIBA '' and is located in Magadan. The memorial captured the greetings of Soviet and American pilots against the backdrop of an airplane wing, symbolizes the cooperation of the two powers - the USSR and the United States, and is dedicated to the brave military pilots.

The monument is dedicated to the feat of the personnel of the '' 1st Red Flag Aviation Division '' of the Civil Air Fleet of the Alaska-Siberia air route, located at 13 km, on the Kolyma federal highway, in the curve for the old air terminal building . The memorial will remind those who travel to Magadan of the heroic episode of the Great Patriotic War (World War 2). Russia has a pleasant memory of the contribution of the coalition allies against Hitler's expansion in the European part of Russia, towards the final common victory.

The region and Russian miltarians will never forget Soviet-American military cooperation against military invasions that have taken place. The remarkable American-Russian allied cooperation during the Great Patriotic War (World War II), the legendary Alaska-Siberia route, "ALSIBA '', which American military equipment was delivered to the USSR by air.

The Alaska-Siberia route operated from 1942 to 1945 between Fairbanks (Alaska) and Krasnoyarsk in Russia, and passed through aerodromes and runways in the Magadan region in the region's capital, and in the villages of Seimchan, Berelekh. It was the Soviet part of the air route for the transportation of American aircraft supplied to the USSR under the American military aid plan called '' Lend-Lease '' to improve the Russian defenses of the Hitler invasion underway in that war. And it also had other support features to feed the troops and the Russian people.

The flight route had two phases, the start of flights along the US - Uelkal - Anadyr - Seimchan route, and later by Yakutsk, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk is considered to be its operational start on October 7, 1942. 7,926 American combat aircraft and transport were delivered to the Soviet Air Force under the Lend-Lease Agreement between the US and the then USSR from 1942 to 1945.

Anything could happen to airplanes at the time, which lacked location equipment, on this most difficult heroic path.
The section of the route that ended in Yakutia, based in the village of Seimchan was the most intense and difficult of the entire route - it traversed the high mountain territory and over the arctic pole of the extreme cold of Oymyakon (the coldest place on the planet). Pilots had to fly at high altitudes wearing oxygen masks and at very low temperatures. The flight lasted about four hours, in this section and almost all the aircraft had no heating.

The pilots had to overcome great adversities. During the period of existence of the air flight route, 113 pilots died in 44 air accidents, 81 aircraft were lost. The Lend-Lease aircraft were to equip Soviet air combat regiments. In addition to military equipment, other things were also transported: gold, mica, food, postal services, including diplomatic documents and diplomatic personnel. They were transported along the route, with more than 5,000 kilometers of extension, 18,753 tons of cargo and 128,371 passengers. The author of the memorial project was Andrei Kovalchuk.

The sculpture lasted only 16 years, after which, due to the reconstruction of the square, and a new political era, the monument was removed and transported to the “Praça dos Cosmonautas”, where it still stands today. The statue has a lower and more modest position on the pedestal than in the original. During the search it was not possible to find information on the current height of the pedestal where the statue is located.
Until 1985, the building of the environment of the square '' House of Soviets '' (Link: http://samlib.ru/img/g/glushenko_a_g/ko ... -086-b.jpg) was erected and was paired with the statue.

After 1985 the building remained unfinished the USSR was already without much financial resources to the colossal project. The statue was there facing the front of the construction of the building. The statue "witnessed" the first signs of the collapse of his regime created by Lenin in 1917, with the work unfinished.

In 2001, the statue "witnessed '' the restoration of Russia with the beginning of the construction of the '' Cathedral of the Holy Trinity '' (in front of it). The statue of the communist leader '' witnessed" the inauguration of the Cathedral (we will talk about in another post by Cathedral). In its place in the cathedral square is today, the statue of "Saint Innocent - Christian missionary from Siberia and Alaska" (Alaska, today state of the USA). Orthodox cathedral in Magadan. (Троицкий собор)

It is both a cult building and an architectural monument to the victims of repression, it is magnificent in architecture.
Holy Trinity Cathedral was the ancient Russian architecture of Vladimir-Novgorod. The main staircase leading to the cathedral is comparable in magnitude to the Spanish Steps in Rome. The Trinity Cathedral is one of the tallest in Russia: the height of the central dome with a cross is 71.2 m.
The five-domed temple with golden domes, kokoshniks and an elegant arcade belt was erected in 2008 and enshrined three years later. With a height of 70 m, the church has an area of about 9 thousand square meters. The cathedral's interiors shine with polished, golden Ural granite and impressive paintings.

Until 1985, the building of the House of Soviets was built on this site, which remained unfinished. The metallic structure, partially disassembled, is taken as a base for the support structures of the cathedral. The construction of the cathedral began in 2001. And on September 14, 2003, the first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity under construction. In the same year, the monument to V.I.Lenin, erected in front of the failed House of Soviets, was transferred to Praça dos Cosmonautas.

The walls were completed in 2008. The cathedral was painted by masters from Palekh.
Two large icons for iconostasis, each 3 meters high, were painted by Trinity icon painters, Sergius Lavra.
The cathedral was consecrated on September 1, 2011 by Patriarch Kirill.

For 10 years, about 900 million rubles were spent on building the cathedral, both from the budget and from donations from Kolyma's faithful and the capital.
