Game keeps crashing when map is loading.

#1 Post by JohnStanley » 27 Nov 2020 21:22

Hey all. I recently just got this game on Steam and each time I click on continue game, the game crashes when it loads. I have used no mods to this and have never accessed the map before. Any help will be greatly appreciated. ( I tried to verify game files too )

here is my game log: that log contains many warnings with "unable to find city" and 2 errors.

here is my game crash log:

PC specs:

If this is indeed caused because of my hardware, then I won't worry too much about it as I got this game for my dad who uses a bit of a stronger PC (didn't test it on his PC yet, I will do that some time in the week)

Thanks guys!

Yes it appears your PC is below the minimum specs. The crash is specifically the video card failing to load resources.

DX11 is not fully supported on the 8600 GT card
Try with OpenGL or go back to an earlier game version which runs DX9

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/g ... 00-gt.c198
Even though it supports DirectX 11, the feature level is only 10_0, which can be problematic with many DirectX 11 & DirectX 12 titles.

Yeah the 8600 GT doesn't support DX11 at a hardware level. But even under openGL or DX9 it wouldn't make much sense as this card is just too ancient and painfully slow. Additionally, installed memory is too low as well. Minimum requirement is 4GB.

Not far behind, worth a try and lowest possible settings

@JohnStanley, sorry but your GPU does not meet min specs, get a refund on Steam

Thanks for the replies but even on his PC the same thing happens but I do get a little bit further when selecting the public beta, it was currently on opt out of all beta. This time I see a bit of the map with the screen going black shortly after.

This is his current PC specs

Excuse the PC name, it was my PC which I gave to him and I took his old one to use (this one I am currently on) If this game won't work on steam are there perhaps any other alternatives to playing this with people online?

It's strange though, on his PC he has the offline version which he plays fine on medium graphics.
I won't ask steam for a refund, ATS is too awesome, I will just let it lay dormant until one day I can buy a GPU suitable for ATS.
Would Euro Truck Simulator perhaps work? Although ATS is more preferred but maybe I can consider getting ETS until I eventually get a better GPU to switch back over to ATS.

A GTS 250 is also too weak, and more important, too old. Nvidia terminated support for this card four years ago. That means no new drivers since then. For DX11, you absolutely need recent drivers, with this game.

So you could try what you have been already told: OpenGL, or step back to a game version before DX9 was terminated. Or of course you get a refund, if the period allowing it isn't already over.

aw darn. Well I will play around with OpenGL (wouldn't launch at first but maybe switching between betas might do the trick.) Does going back a game version still allow to play with other players online? If it's not too much to ask could someone recommend a version to downgrade to. Or even recommend a GPU to get that will support DX 11, not something top of the range pls. ;D

Thanks again for all the help! : )

I never used TruckersMP, but my guess would be "no".
