Well, after some further testing i can tell what using any truck painted with white color will cause this "situation" when everything looks darker outside. Happens even on sunset when its usually dark but with white truck it becomes a lot more darker.I presume its because of two new settings in climate definition - "dark_adaptation_speed" and white_adaptation_speed". Maybe this still needs to be tweaked.

Re: ATS 1.40 Open Beta discussion
I'm certain this has already been mentioned, but there is something weird going on with the brightness of the day.
At times in exterior view (including the screenshot cam), it's super dull.

Then in the inside, it's super bright at times

But further, with the screenshot camera mode, most of the time the brightness is about normal.

I notice this mostly in the middle of the day, and I'd compare it to wearing sunglasses for the outside views and just normal eyesight inside. The inside's brightness, while a bit extreme, isn't so bad: It's the exterior that concerns me. If I run reshade to brighten it up, it will make the interior unbearable. And if I run reshade to make the interior darker, it'll almost be dusk outside. It needs more balance between outside and in.

@seriousmods If I remember correctly from what the ETS beta thread said, the interior camera now simulates eye adaption. I do believe it was also discussed in this thread as well.

But then again, you are using that hand mod that replaces all of the interior animations and lights that is not 1.40 compatible yet... Possibly darkening your view area and make outside look brighter than it should.
ALL MODS THAT ADDS SOMETHING VISUAL DO EFFECT YOUR EXPERIENCE NEGATIVELY YET! Repeat this without mods...

Speaking of the photomode, it really needs a brightness or exposure slider now with the new lighting update. The ground or the sky just becomes too dark or bright and the only solution is to tilt the camera up or down. Or edit the pictures later in another program.

Something that @rookie_one brought to my attention from the Modding guides:
Maybe @Max can share some thoughts on this
Now while that is interesting, it does not solve the fundamental problem of manual gearboxes. You still need that to control the downshift. So while useful, I wish they would move it to gearboxes, so you could choose between engine_brake_position and retarder and set steps according to that.Engine brake can control retarder now. There is array auxiliary_brakes in accessory_engine_data units and works in similar way as same-named array in accessory_transmission_data. The only difference is ordering - engines auxiliary brake triplet is in order [engine_brake_strength, downshift, retarder_strength].

this is desired behavior (cameras do this as well as human eye).
we might re-check if the setup is correct and tweak it if such differences will show as too much in case you hit big white or big black area.
In other words, @Max, this is NOT normal, it is NOT playable.

I have to agree. White blobbing has been a problem since day one and this lighting update was supposed to resolve this issue. Bloody hell, just fix it already.
