Have you ever driven a truck in real life?
Have you ever driven a truck in real life?
I drove a European truck with trailer for the first time yesterday. I made an appointment with the driver who delivers goods to the company where I work. I got behind the wheel and drove around the warehouse. It was exciting, the guards on the premises were amazed. How was your first time?

Re: Have you ever driven a truck in real life?
My sole truck driving experience was moving a brand new International 8600 Transtar in a parking lot for a photoshoot. For someone with no manual transmission experience and no training (and at the time no ATS if memory serves), I did pretty well.
If I ever drive something that size again, though, it'll probably be a moving truck. Penske rents International MVs with 26 foot boxes, and they even have air brakes, but no CDL requirement. If I ever need to move a ways, that's what I'll get.

I live in one. 2022 Freightliner Cascadia.
I spend about 9 hours per day (on average) driving it with a 53' dry van trailer. My first time driving one was an older Cascadia (probably 2018) with 53' reefer trailer on a short local route through an industrial complex, as well at the company yard on the backing range. At that point, I had no previous experience with such a vehicle, but had played ATS for many years, effectively making me probably the most experienced person there other than the instructors.
I have since decided that I will likely never buy a car, but instead opt for something much larger like a full-sized SUV.

Biggest truck I've driven is an F-350, back in 2008.

Got to drive an Actros around a yard the other day. Very cool! I was surprised, how soft the suspensions are and was caught out by the 2.5 steering wheel rotations to full lock, since I've got only 1.5 on my simulator wheel. Next time (whenever that may be) I hope to drive with a trailer and a bit faster hopefully, since it was not possible to try out the retarder this time around.

I started my adventure on a multi-axle container transport kit. scania with v8 500hp, 3 axles and combitrailer 5 axle trailer. I drive it until today. The first day, I have a load in the port and the container fell off the gantry and wrecked my entire trailer and rear axles. The police, an ambulance, fire brigade and a crane arrived to pick up the container. Fortunately, nothing happened to me, but the car was to be scrapped. It turned out that the operator was drunk and was still drinking while working. Despite this situation, I continue to work in this profession and drive Poland-Scandinavia

I actually bought a truck one month before I got my truck licence! That's confidence...
It's a 2001 Isuzu FRR500 4x2 rigid pantech with tailgate loader, GVM 10,400kg, 175hp, 6-speed syncromesh manual.
I bought it to carry my race car, a Toyota AE86 Corolla. Australia is a big place and the race tracks are spread far apart. My next race is 1855km (1150 miles) from home.

I'm about to be buying my 2022 Freightliner Cascadia from the company I drive for.
