SCS General Discussion Thread
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
What's the problem to add option that you can chose by yourself for what politic influence such country or territory you want to be presented in game. Not much work needed and problem solved.

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
Not so much work? Depending on the place it supposes A LOT of work. Whatever, that is not going to happen, never. There's no controversy here from the side of SCS; they are going to do whatever it will be there IRL and done. Anybody who dislike it is free not to purchase it. Done.
When I said that some places like Belarus could be "too hot" to do them now; I wasn't talking that to map them in a way or another could be something controversial that could make SCS to think it twice. I was talking about they were places where it was not safe or stable enough for a company to send their employees to work in the ground. Plain and simple. Of course, all of this in the hypothetical scenario that those places were had been selected by SCS dev team back in time as the next places to be mapped (something we don't know).
Regards

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
all this discussion is a moot point anyway the moment they go into Asia territory, especial east south/east Asia, google can sing you a song of it of how much different versions of google maps they have depending on your location

They are issuing their own, distinctly non-Ukrainian passports and license plates over there. So it's not as simple as you think.Eduard_Kenobi wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022 11:53 What a problem is with Donetsk? Is that part of Ukraine? Yes it is. So make it in Ukraine. Problem solved.
And that area is also closed for trucks coming from the Ukrainian side anyway. Which is, you know, a problem for a truck simulator game.
Honestly, this is the one area of Europe that SCS should just leave well alone, IMO.
Can this argument not be used ever again please? Google Maps is not the only research tool that exists out there.pigbrother wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022 16:58With no Street View coverage, I’m afraid Belarus will be a problem for some time.

Sorry, mate, Yandex Mirror is horrible. The image quality is awful and the windshield level camera angle with no panorama is not great at all. Sure, it's much better than nothing and you can have a general idea about what's going on there, but on the other hand is hard to call it useful when you have to guess the colours because the images look like they were snapped with a 2001 webcam.
I have approximate knowledge of many things
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
There is a fair amount of decent quality footage there. It should be pretty serviceable to cover the basics - you can learn which road sign goes where and what does it say. And then if you need to model a specific building or landmark that Mirrors don't provide a clear enough view of, you just switch to the photos layer, or simply google for pics and videos of it. Evidently, SCS already did this with parts of Russia that don't have any street view for HoR (e.g. Belozersk).
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
Mapiliary is another decent source of data, but suffers from the same problem in that there is no panoramic view and the image quality is very dependent on the source. But still better than nothing and in some areas it has proved more useful than Google Maps
Never argue with idiots. They bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
anyway today almost every country in the world has essentially disputed territories. https://youtu.be/rDjQPfq0NOE?t=13xXCARL1992Xx wrote: ↑19 Jan 2022 18:28 all this discussion is a moot point anyway the moment they go into Asia territory, especial east south/east Asia, google can sing you a song of it of how much different versions of google maps they have depending on your location
today only gray countries do not have disputed territories and there are very few of them.
sooner or later, the SCS will have to face something. just ignore it. like Сody in ATS or Andorra in ETS2 .
they may add this in future updates. if the situation changes. or it can be done by Mod maps. something like this, SCS will be able to avoid any problems , it seems to me.

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
We can discuss this all we want, it’s not gonna help SCS at all. They’re pretty much on their own with it, read: they’ll make their decisions at their own discretion. They shouldn’t even start to make them dependent on us. Think about it. Most other fields are a different story, but map/country shaping is all upon them.
Not saying we should stop talking about it.
