Apparently, rain sensor was more important
Have a mature suggestion to improve American Truck Simulator? Fahgettaboudit!

Hehe! It's a nice feature too!
But yes, the banner & flag thing needs to be a top priority imo, for playability if nothing else.

Top priority, that I can’t say. But it should be done as in yesterday. No engine updated required. But there are far more pressing things to bring so I’m not surprised that it hasn’t come yet.

It should be something that we can adjust at anytime so not even a shop should be required. Pavel has acknowledged getting out the truck. If we can get limitations of 3-4 meters around the truck and trailer, that would be the perfect time to implement accessorizing our trucks with flags and other things.

The lack of removable flags and banners is only part of the issue with heavy haul.

We have quick jobs where a fully aero truck (with banners and flags) spawns in front of an 8-axle lowboy. We have AI that haul similar loads with a fleet spec daycab. We have cargo that is incorrectly configured (and has been reported as bugged multiple times with no fix). We have special transport jobs that are limited to 40 mph and have police escorts when irl they might not even need a pilot car. And we have this banner and flag issue as well.

Heavy haul should be the best part of the game, the crowning achievement of a player's virtual career. Instead, it's the same process as hauling used packaging from walbert to sell goods, and in some cases, it might even be hauling something from sellgoods, probably a wind turbine part.

Hahaha!

Yes, sometimes heavy hauling in ATS can feel a lot less important than one might like, kinda like you're de-prioritized in traffic, in a relative sense, despite the relative importance of what you're hauling.
Though it probably accurately reflects the attitude towards heavy transport of most road users today. I believe the #mefirst mentality can affect everyone from time to time...
At least it's gratifying in itself to know you've safely completed a relatively complicated haul with no issues.

Personally, I love heavy hauling and I'd love to see it and the special transport system expanded to involve longer routes, more variety of challenges and more escort vehicles.
I'm sure special transport missions could really have been a completely separate simulator in terms of all the variety of loads and challenges in real life special transportation,
but I love the fact that it's at all a part of ATS.
So thanks for that you guys!!
Love you, and hope you continue expanding ATS in every sense!

Could make it where when you hook up to a large load it adds the banners.

The developers should give those banners, flags, beacons, and whatever else is used to help ensure safe transport, their own item classification set. This would allow different templates which you could apply to the truck and/or the trailer for trips that have special DOT requirements (heavy hauling, hazardous materials, etc.) Don't make it too easy. Make the driver match the appropriate template for the job, except maybe as an option.

I don't think you should need a garage or service station to do this operation. Won't these things fit in the personal storage area of the truck cab? You should be able to do it anywhere, as long as you have stopped.

Frankly, it's ridiculous that we still can't do this. This needs to be able to apply to other parts as well, definable via the part def files such as "user_serviceable: true/false". For example it would allow me to add/remove/change loads on my trucks in my mod, without visiting a shop, since the game does not natively support loads on trucks at all.
