Bring back orginal gas stations
Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
So the reason given as to why they might have changed the logos is be to sure they don't get into any lawsuits as they closely resemble real ones, that I can understand. But then why add this? I'm sure Subway will be delighted they are using their colors and fonts

When it comes to trademark law you have what is called confusingly similar, which in essence means that a logo is so close to an already existing trademarked logo that people may confuse the two. Along similar lines you also have trademark dilution. Reusing colors and fonts with an extremely different name likely doesn’t fall into either of those categories.GinXeng wrote: ↑04 Aug 2022 23:32 So the reason given as to why they might have changed the logos is be to sure they don't get into any lawsuits as they closely resemble real ones, that I can understand. Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
Neither did the most original gas stations but here we are.
Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
Oh yes they did. Lol
Pedro was a knockoff of Petro. Single letter difference, same colors and fonts. That likely would satisfy the confusingly similar and trademark dilution tests.
Hearts was a knockoff of Loves. Same colors, same font, and words that generally have the same contextual meaning of sorts. Again would satisfy the confusingly similar test and probably trademark dilution as well.
Chemron was a knockoff of chevron. Again one letter difference (Even typing this reply in my phone, predicative text tried to autocorrect to chevron). Same colors and font. And yes that would again satisfy the confusingly similar test and trademark dilution test.
Need I go on? Regardless of what you think, you don’t have to be a trademark law expert to realize the old names scs used were uncomfortably close to the real ones. And the risk associated with such a thing is not really worth it.
Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
That was genuinely more of a rhetorical question.
If you cannot see that the old names were extremely close to real licensed trademarked names, we have a problem here. Even if they did not violate trademark law (which personally I think they did) they were close enough that those companies could have taken them to court. Having parody gas stations for added “immersion” isn’t really worth the risk. Even if scs was taken to court over those old logos and names used and won, they would still have lost. The financial outlay for court cases can be extremely high for one. Two, again if they won, they’d still walk away with somewhat of a tarnished reputation and companies would be hesitant to work with them on other licensed content in the future. Because why bother to work with someone when they could easily do a parody of your licensed name/logo and get away with it?
Here’s just one recent example of what could have happened to scs.

Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
Then they should have thought of all of that in the first place, why remove them 6 years later. The new ones are just awful.
Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
Wow, criticising for making this decision late. So the focus changed from ‘replacing the brands’ to ‘not doing it earlier’? Criticising them for thinking for long term? that’s plain bad. Remember, nobody’s perfect.
Anyway, that’s just your opinion. I like the new ones more, for multiple reasons.

Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
Notice how the quality of things such as map DLC’s and trucks have changed over the last 6 years. Scs has went through numerous changes for the better, and it’s obvious one of those changes was business strategy and risk mitigation.
And like it’s been stated a couple of times already perhaps they change stemmed from scs receiving a cease and desist order or something along those lines. If you recall a couple of updates back the Pedro gas station randomly changed to Fusion.

Re: Bring back orginal gas stations
SCS change many thing even before the gas stations like the heavy equipment from the Special Transport or Heavy Cargo DLC where machine had a resemblance to real machines, the Locomotive they changed or the Tractors on the flatbed because they were closer to John Deer then anything and everybody knows how trigger happy John Deer is even if only the color is similar but somehow some gas stations produce this long of a discussion ?
there wont be any change, if you want the old gas stations download 1.44 or 1.43, rip them out and make a mod out of it
