load-game UI freeze and unexpected updated navigation cache with Texas DLC installed [213192]

#1 Post by DracoTorre » 19 Nov 2022 18:25

(EDIT 22 June 2023): Apparently map nav cache invalidation-and-rebuild on reload is known issue as noted by Andre_AW in the 1.48 open-beta thread, Invalid Map Cache — QA 213192 — for work-around see a few posts below.

(edit 28 June): updated thread title with same QA number [213192] as other report
  • no map co-ordinates provided as does not pertain to map
  • no crash
  • multiple game logs provided near bottom within reproduction steps
  • game version 1.46.2.0s
  • Windows 10 x64
  • all available map DLCs installed, no mods
  • appears always reproducible
When Texas DLC installed and mounted loading a saved game, manual-save or auto-save, causes apparent frozen UI for 30-to-45 seconds and updated navigation cache file then load-game screen appears and finishes loading into game. On the next game start, continue profile presents the content-change-detected screen and updates the navcache file as observed by checking the file’s modified date with the cache folder. As long as the player uses Drive button to continue no more subsequent navigation updates until player again uses the load-game menu item causing issue to repeat. Without Texas DLC loading an auto-save or manual save behaves normally.

Steps to reproduce (note first 3 steps validate normal behavior without Texas installed):
  1. without Texas installed start new profile and once in game drive a bit then use save-game.
  2. load the save-game observing normal behavior
  3. exit game, restart game and load the save-game observing normal behavior then exit game (may repeat step 3)
  4. install Texas DLC then start game and continue profile observing expected navigation update
  5. take a new job and drive a bit then exit game
  6. start game and use the Drive button to continue observing normal behavior (may repeat step 6)
  7. use save-game to create a new save then exit game to create an autosave
  8. start game and use load-game menu item to load the most recent autosave or the manual save – observe frozen UI which may last 30-to-45 seconds then the loading screen apppears

Here is relevant portion of game log where frozen UI occurs at 00:00:26.584 which appears to be updating navigation:

    Code: Select all

    00:00:25.410 : Loading save '/home/profiles/54657374657232/save/autosave/game.sii'
00:00:25.502 : Route data generation started.
00:00:26.137 : Route data generation finished.
00:00:26.309 : Road network navigation caching started.
00:00:26.584 : Cached navigation does not match the current state, ignoring
    00:01:14.632 : Garage update started.
    00:01:14.786 : Garage update finished.

    game-log (text) frozen UI
    .
    .
  9. exit game and look in cache folder to observe navcache file modified-date has changed
  10. start game to observe content-change-navigation-update screen and continue using Drive button then exit game

    game-log (text) navigation update

From here on as long as player avoids using the load-game feature and uses Drive button to continue no further navcache updates. Loading a save-game repeats issue including observation in step 10.

I have approximate knowledge of many things

Workaround: avoid loading a save-game from in-game menu item, Save & Load (which causes issue as described in first post), and instead exit to the launchpad to select a save-game. To accomplish this change configuration to force the load selector to display at start.

Edit main config.cfg and edit line (change 0 to 1) to read,

Code: Select all

g_global_force_load_selector “1”
When playing only load a save from the launchpad:
  • start game, choose a profile to continue gam and the load selector displays—choose recent autosave or a manual save
  • when in game and wish to load an older save, select from menu, exit and exit to launchpad
  • at the launchpad continue game and from the selector choose the desired save-game

Re: load-game UI freeze and unexpected updated navigation cache with Texas DLC installed [NOT A MOD]

#5 Post by San_Sany4 » 02 Dec 2022 02:59

My 100% vanilla game that never had seen the mods updates the navigation cache like half of the times, randomly, when I load a save. Several times I left the profile to the dashboard, and loaded it back without closing the game, and seen "Content change detected" line. So this is definitely not a mod issue.

This is initial save loading. The game was not updated prior.

Code: Select all

00:00:28.345 : Loading save '/home/profiles/D090D0BBD0B5D0BAD181D0B0D0BDD0B4D180/save/autosave/game.sii'
00:00:28.554 : Route data generation started.
00:00:29.305 : Route data generation finished.
00:00:29.539 : Road network navigation caching started.
00:00:29.882 : Cached navigation does not match the current state, ignoring
And just a dozen minutes later, I load a save, and

Code: Select all

00:12:43.475 : Loading save '/home/profiles/D090D0BBD0B5D0BAD181D0B0D0BDD0B4D180/save/quicksave/game.sii'
00:12:43.653 : Route data generation started.
00:12:44.417 : Route data generation finished.
00:12:44.492 : Road network navigation caching started.
00:12:44.815 : Cached navigation does not match the current state, ignoring
the navigation is broken already! And then, four hours later, it broke once again:

Code: Select all

04:05:13.457 : Loading save '/home/profiles/D090D0BBD0B5D0BAD181D0B0D0BDD0B4D180/save/autosave_drive_1/game.sii'
04:05:13.665 : Route data generation started.
04:05:14.463 : Route data generation finished.
04:05:14.539 : Road network navigation caching started.
04:05:14.838 : Cached navigation does not match the current state, ignoring
As I said, my profile is clean, it never had any mods from the very beginning. I tried validating game files in Steam, did not help.

I ran into this problem too. If you haven't purchased the Texas DLC yet, you won't encounter this problem. But after purchasing and installing, I encountered this problem. It's a profile that doesn't have any mods activated at all. Most likely part of the road network in Texas DLC is broken.

Additional note: I have reproduced this issue with new installation on Linux OS (Ubuntu 22.04, both in native and Windows compatibility via Proton 8.0), game version 1.47.2.0, new profile, no mods. In summary: with Texas DLC installed using Load Game feature causes UI-lock (freeze) for a half-minute or longer then on subsequent continue from Profile Menu the screen for content change - update navigation appears.
