SCS General Discussion Thread

Hm. Mixed signals coming from there
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
Odd you mention Windows 8, although Windows 7 was supported for longer than 8 (not including 8.1, which Microsoft cut support for in 2023).b_l_e_1 wrote: ↑13 Jan 2025 17:27 Laugh all you want about Linux. Many people throughout the world just might be going to Linux (or an Apple Mac. That is, if they want to remortgage their house to buy a Desktop Pro) when Windows 10 support goes bye-bye next October.
Why? Because peeps are sick of being held for ransom by Microsoft with inferior Windows operating systems (see Windows 8 for example).
Windows 10 is what, ten years old? It's the best OS Microsoft has put out in decades. And now stupid Microsoft is killing it over a junk OS which was rushed out of the gate and is full of bugs, that being Windows 11.
It's probably going to be real fun in the forums here next October ...![]()
Also: You can still use Windows 10 after Microsoft stops supporting it. Most software developers will support Windows 10 (and even earlier, in some cases) after Microsoft stops supporting it. You won't be doomed once the clock strikes midnight on October 14.

In fact private users can subscribe to a prolonged update service, at a fee. Not exactly cheap, but if you can't let go, it's an alternative.
That said, ATS and ETS2 run like a charm under Linux. Look for gaming distros.

I am not having problems with win 11. I updated my win 10 to 11 when they launched and it was not that bad. The biggest downside i had is that you need to deactivate a lot of useless things the win 11 wants to throw down our throats.
Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
I always use the newest things. Since the beta release of Windows 7, I always install new systems as soon as they appear. All my software always works great. I have never regretted it.

Agree 'd too that Windows 10 was the best one so far - on the other end absolutely Windows 8.1
Not that happy with Windows 11 but ill guess it Depends also on how new the computer is
Now something new more or less working for the old good running Programs and Apps...we will see how it goes with the new rig.
And not to forget , it seems more complicated is always better
guess that one depends also on how old and interested the User is

Windows 11 is mostly a hit and miss, and that's said by someone who usually has to fix PC's for other people, on some machines it works perfectly fine, on others is an absolute nightmare, it usually has problems that i never had with any Windows 10 machine, so the curse of "one great, one bad" with Windows stays true for me, but with all the AI BS that Microsoft is now shoving into Windows 11, the next Window might be equally as bad...

I was an early adopter for 2000 (although I was missing my Win 98 + NT 4.0 dual boot), then moved to XP pretty fast, then a brave early Vista adopter and so on until a day 1 Windows 10 adopter. Some beginnings were bumpy, especially Vista was pretty painful until SP1, but I cannot say I regretted too much. But now... I see absolutely zero reasons to move to 11, I cannot point to a single thing that I want or need or just be curious about it.
I have approximate knowledge of many things

Re: SCS General Discussion Thread
Many users of not-so-old computers are mostly put off by Windows 11 refusing to install. It doesn’t matter so much to them what its advantages are if they have to spend a lot of money to be able to run it. Regardless of MS’s motives, this is a bad move. It’s a huge waste of money and sends pretty young systems to waste. I can relate to those who consider alternatives to Windows.
Personally I also look at what’s going on under the surface of 11 and I don’t like what I’m seeing. So, despite having a very recent computer, I’m still weighing my options, and I’ll say that Linux is looking quite attractive from that point of view.
