How to fix micro freezes, especially when using owned trailers and ProMods

#1 Post by UnholyMrBrown » 02 Nov 2024 11:05

Hey there,

I just thought I'll leave it here how I eliminated those annoying micro freezes which accure every few seconds. The problem is very presistent and drove me into desperation.
Quite some people experience the same, especially when using owned trailers on promods or other modded maps which add a lot of cities.

So here is what I did...

Step 1 (in case you are using owned trailers)
Finish your current job first if you care about it.
Download and add this fix by PizzaDawg above your maps:
https://truckymods.io/euro-truck-simula ... tutter-fix
Type "g_force_economy_reset 1" into the dev console, save and reload the save. You will notice significant improvements.

Step 2
If you still experience micro freezes, make sure to use this background map:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... 2485894487
Combine it with:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/ ... 2535760651

With these steps I finally got rid of the micro freezes/stutters.
One part seems to be caused by the cargo market constantly generating jobs for all the cities without any limit.
So when a lot of cities are being added via mods, it is basically leading to a memory leak.
The other part has to do with the backgroundmap zoom and resolution on heavily modded maps.

I hope this helps someone. If not, then sorry for wasting your time. That it worked for me, doesn't mean it works for everyone of course.

Hello,

thanks for this guide! I played AlfaOmega map, route 30 Km and without any stutter!

I hope SCS fixes this and we won't need any workarounds in the future.

Wow, you just solved the problems I had with a huge map build, with over 140 mods on 1.53. Thank goodness I found this post. I remember reading about the developers console, but never used it, knew how to activate it, or why I even needed to. By following your instructions, and downloading the two maps, I was able to go from Micro freezes every four seconds to smooth buttery solid fps gameplay. I was about ready to pull all the maps off and go vanilla, you saved me from that!

I’ll probably link this post in the YouTube channel with the map video I used, so in case others ran into the same problems

Once again, thank you for taking the time to post this. I literally had worked on this for 3 days trying to find the key.

There is one thing you all should know with this mod
It changes the no_cargo_prob from 0,1 to 0,99 %

If you set the no_cargo_prob parameter to 0.9 or 0.99, it means there will be a 90% or 99% chance, respectively, that no cargo will be generated for a job slot. This would significantly reduce the number of available jobs in the game, which could lead to very few or even no new jobs being generated, especially if you have a high number of job slots.

For example, if you set no_cargo_prob to 0.99, there is a 99% chance that no cargo will be generated for each job slot, which means only 1% of the job slots will have cargo available. This can make it very difficult to find new jobs in the game.

What you could do, is change the cargo_validity_max parameter to very high, like 10000 (about a week) , in theory, jobs will stay available for that long.

Also, it seems not to be working with cargomods, like Jazzycat's Trailer&Cargopack, part1,2,and 3 , and Arnook's Container pack.
Those seem to have their own parameters built-in, don't know /shrug

It maybe worth a try though, especially on longer trips.
By the time you finish your job, and there are no new jobs available, maybe log out, and de-activate the mod., find a job, and activate it again.

Haven't tried the mod myself yet, though I don't really need it at the moment.

@Borgrim I left no_cargo_prob to its default value and only increased cargo_validity_max to 10080 (one week). This has been working fine for me since 1.53 released, even on my map combo profile with ProMods enabled.

Of course, you'll still get some stutters every now and then, but it's much better than a stutter every in-game minute.

Is this done in the dev console as well?

I’ve noticed my micro stutters starting again, and to confirm they go away when I dismiss is my trailer.

Regarding the cargo validity max, what if the correct command line? I tried “cargo_validity_max 10080” and cargo_validity_max_10080” and got an unknown command for both in the console. I’m new to these mods, so if there is something I’m not understanding, I would truly appreciate if you could explain it for me.

Thanks in advance.

@Jimg123 "cargo_validity_max" is not a console command, but rather a parameter in the economy_data.sii file. You can try opening PizzaDawg's mod in something like 7-Zip, then you should find the economy_data.sii file inside the def folder. I have the following values for the three relevant parameters:

no_cargo_prob: 0.1
cargo_validity_min: 180
cargo_validity_max: 10080

This should give you a very wide job expiration window, between 3 and 168 hours. After editing the file, make sure you repack it into the .scs archive if it doesn't automatically do so. Also, make sure you give this mod a very high priority in the mod manager (I have it right on top). You will need to reset the game economy again by setting g_force_economy_reset to 1, reloading your save and then setting it back to 0. Hopefully this should fix the stutters for you.

@UnholyMrBrown

THANK YOU ACTUALLY DID MY FIRST TRIP IN 12 YEARS ETS2 HISTORY WITHOUT MICRO STUTTERS WITH OWNABLE TRAILER ATTACHED!!!

Any chance to donate you a big beer?

EDIT: Actually it seem that it only worked for about 1h real life time in game, now returened. Now clue why, will try to do the economy reset more frequently.

EDIT 2: I could immediately heal it with the economy reset again , save quit , reload. Then it was fine again , seems that this has to be done at every new start of the game.

Any clue how to avoid this and fix it permanently when using Promods + ownables?

Anyway even as we have to do economy reset at every game loading, I am grateful that we find finally a solution…
