Yes, I can confirm that, Czechs dub all Slovak films of every genre into Czech, here in Slovakia we do not dub Czech films into SlovakXefjord wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025 04:51 @Virtual Driver
As someone working in the language education industry I think a lot of people are just kind of ignorant of language topics. Czech and Slovak are exceptionally similar, and given the somewhat one sided exposure, Slovaks understand Czech even better than vice versa. But even then we are talking about a difference between like 95% and 90%. A lot of Americans especially think multilingual is close to impossible unless it's your full time job or you were born speaking both.
Even if you do use translations tools for the English side of things, stuff like ChatGPT is exceptionally good. People seem to think translation tools are stuck in 2010. Even Google translate has been extremely good at functional content for most major languages since 2020z and that was half a decade ago.
I would say don't be too disheartened. I appreciate your translations!

As a slightly advanced of the Russian language, I can say that there are a few words in Russian that are used in Slovak the same way, but have the exact opposite meaning than in Russian, and yes, Slavic languages are related, every Slav will always understand another Slav, I think there are 18 Slavic nations, which is the most of all nations in the worldSan_Sany4 wrote: ↑10 Jun 2025 06:30 Slavic languages are all closely related and very similar to each other. I have never properly learned any other Slavic language except my native, but I can easily understand at least a half on any Slavic language, sometimes even 80% or more. Just knowing some etymology, some archaic words of my language, a little bit of church slavonic, and using a little bit of deduction.

For Polish, Czech and Slovak are the most simllar. But for me I think that Slovak is more understandable than Czech.
I found Czech more complex
