A Possible Fanmade Remake + Truck Mods

Ever since I was young, I always wanted to make mods for this game...

Now, after a day of 5+ liters of water, reverse engineering, watching, I've got the very first standalone-truck up-and running.

sort of.

1979 W900a, very iconic truck that might've fitted into the game

Wait, a game so old, why mod it?
Yes, I know, this game is technically considered abandonware as not many/almost nobody modded this game unless you've looked really hard into it, but, gosh, I really love this game, but, the reason why I am guessing it's not so modded unlike later games - even Convoy -, it's because Prism3D is a bit funky and selective on what you do, of course, it's a old gaming engine, I shouldn't expect very much

Congratulations, modding Hard Truck games is extremely difficult, I only managed to swap textures in Hard Truck 18 Wheels Of Steel and change the truck's spawn point at the beginning of the game, I try to add a new city from time to time but without success. Prism3D in older versions is not easy to mod.

Thanks! I’ll try my best to revive this game and keep the original energy of it, originally it all started because I was kind of curious how different the game would feel to have real life trucks into the game and what not, it all started also because I didn’t want to only swap textures — and add cities? That’s something as well I’d love to look into

On a more technical note, yes, it is really interesting how complex it is to make a single truck without any knowledge — you’re at a loss lol

The first obstacle I had, was the format of the 3d models, not to mention porting it from blender over to zModeler to then configure the dummies and what not to set the initial file to .psm, sounds are tricky as well since Prism3D seems to be programmed to not load .ogg files bigger than 30 kb

Mostly I was guiding myself through with 18wos PTTM mods to create the W900a, now the real question is, what IS causing the game to crash as soon you purchase the truck, if there’s a way to get crash logs and the console, it would REALLY help to understand how the game works

Probably soon I’ll ask for truck suggestions, was looking to add a Mack Cruise-Liner after the W900a and start remaking the rest of the trucks lol

You have a lot of determination, that's good.
Creating mods, especially for older games, is a task that requires patience and cleverness.
And combinations with software :) So you use Blender and Zmodeler, right?
You're right, a console or crash log would be useful.
Newer games are easier in this regard.
As for sounds, that limitation from back then, it would require a lot of work to solve that limitation.
SCS in theory (if they still have the files somewhere) could provide old unused versions of Prism3D.

Yeah, I realized that as soon I noticed how hard it is to just import a SINGLE model into the game, lmao - yeah, blender to actually model the trucks and zModeler 2.2.6 to put the dummies (positions of wheels, wipers, etc) all necessary for the game

And that would be helpful, for now I'll fiddle around stuff to see how it works, hah.

I wish SCS thought of modding back then.

Computer traffic is a bit dumb. At least don't slow down so aggressively when lanes just shift. I prefer driving at night in Across America when there's so little traffic.

I would love 10, 13, 18 speeds with better gear ranges, high gear with longer range than lower gear. I would love rear brake lamps to also flash as a red turn signal as they should.

I wish chemical trailer was a tank, explosives was a van, etc. with placards.

I would love to edit the map to my liking which I tried around 2014 but never got around to finishing. Not sure if replacing the map or editing the official map is possible. Later 18 WoS Haulin' and ALH needed Toronto!

I just randomly got into the game in 2021, last September, and right now. My favourite 18 WoS as I think it looks the best of WoS, PttM second, but I do have a few pet peeves about them.

You're right, it's a pity they didn't think about it earlier.
I managed to change the Map name in Hard Truck 18 Wheels Of Steel. I tried to add my own map next to the default ones but without any results.
