Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
I was watching one of the YouTubers I follow do a road trip from San Francisco all the way to St. Louis.
Part of his journey was I-80 through Wyoming...which included the stretch in Nevada.
Initially, I didn't think Nevada was too bad. Upon watching the video and watching him traverse that section...boy, was I mistaken. The stretch from Reno through Winnemucca still uses the old 2016-era exit signs and overall it still very much resembles a European-style highway. It almost seems out of place when compared to the surrounding states. Honestly, since I'm mostly doing hauls in the Midwest and Southern Plains states now, I haven't been out west in a while (I got dropped there there once for the Christmas event, just because I hadn't seen the remade Cali yet)
I know a Route 66 revamp was announced, but I really hope at the very least an I-80 rework for the Nevada segment gets announced before Illinois releases. I really want to do an I-80 run from Chicago to SF, but depending on what happens between now and then, I might have to change plans and do a Route 66 one instead, from LA to Chicago.

Yeah I'll do a Davenport to Salt Lake City job at some point (maybe after I get back from vacation next week, my truck is in Davenport now), but I just don't think I can go any further. Really hope that they're simultaneously working on I-80.

Uh-huh, yeah since it's only one road they're reworking right now (albeit a very long one), I'm guessing this may reasonably be done within the year still. LIke many others I was expecting a Nevada rework announcement too, though with PRT having been announced, I do see the appeal in specifically focusing on reworking Route 66 as well.
Looking brilliant so far!
I especially love Picture 7/10 (which was just reposted on the previous page) and Picture 10/10 – there are just so many details to see! Also, speaking of pages – we're on Page 999 of this thread now!

Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
I'm still discovering phases 3 and 4 in small doses, and I'm leaving the area more impressed each time. What a masterpiece. The big 3 (Bay Area, LA, SD) are all absolutely stunning. The lack of sprawling suburbs is a bit disappointing, but whatever. I didn't hate the old California too much, because nostalgia and all, but I remember not liking driving there because of the 55 mph limit. Now I don't even pay attention to it because the surrounding views are so enjoyable.
I still don't understand though what was the point of fully modelling the Santa Monica pier and adding enough details for it to be featured in a viewpoint video, and then blocking the entrance with ugly barriers, ruining the arch look in the process.
Also what's up with these weird speed limits in Barstow area? Is this some easter egg?

Not spotted those speed limits yet! The numbers on them certainly look interesting.
Yeah, I'm really impressed with the California rework too, from what I've seen it's absolutely stunning and really top-notch – especially the new San Francisco (where my HQ has been since I got the game in 2016) and the BIg Sur coastline – so enjoyable.
Honestly, the only tiny thing I've found that's a downgrade from before is that two road blockers in San Francisco were moved, making the road around a park inacessible. This was always accessible before the rework, and I honestly have no idea why this change was done.
I made a whole post about this in the Feature Wishlist and Suggestions section back in December, and I'm still debating whether I should possibly repost it as a bug report in the Bugs section as I really can't think of a reason as to why this change could've been done intentionally; and with the rest of the feature wishlists and suggestions my post is just absolutely buried now...
But yeah, personally that's my only little gripe with the California rework.

They're there in real life. Probably done to make people more likely to pay attention to them.justgettingold wrote: 14 Jul 2025 01:05 Also what's up with these weird speed limits in Barstow area? Is this some easter egg?

Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
I'm still at less than 35% of having California discovered. I barely touched phase 3 and 4 on my main profile. I simply can't access California if all the newer maps are out East and so well connected between the Texas column and the Arkansas column. I'd love to include Iowa/Illinois to California but I can't put myself in position to take California jobs. I-15 only gets me to Southern California and I don't want to cut off the other 2/3's of the state. I need 100% of California accessible from all sides to make taking job to and from there worth my time. Otherwise, I'll just stay away. Most my driving is based on I-70 and I-80. Everyone plays different and a good portion of people simply can't include the West. Its cut off. We are now in our 7th month of 2025 and we still don't have any word on what the rework's focus is. If PRT is a different map team and doing route 66.......we still have unaccounted bodies for mapping.

Re: Base Map Rebuild (CA, NV, AZ) General Discussion Thread
I have two profiles (really 3 with my vanilla bug reporting profile). My 100% discovery profile that I use for the cruising events while I discover and map out the new DLCs, and one based in Seattle that I pretty much only keep on the west coast between San Diego and Bellingham and tend not to venture east of Idaho. Which profile I use depends on where I feel like driving that day. Once NV is redone I wont limit myself anymore but for now that's my situation haha.

Oh and btw speaking of NV, Reno is pretty nice as far as base map cities go. Can't know how realistic it is tho.

I've got...five profiles on ATS.
One for events, my very first profile (which is kinda now a backup to my events one), one with a hard economy mod, a vanilla one, and then one that I use for testing and scouting for the Truck Sim Wiki.
