I don't care anymore about teasings. Big surprise or how they could name it. I'll just wait until something clear is announced and released.
Enough is enough.

Mohegan13 wrote: 02 Oct 2025 12:45 Their requirements are entirely fictional. I installed the beta on a 13yr old laptop running a i3 4th gen and it ran just fine, in fact it ran better than both win7 and 10.

Even now I can use that laptop, you just have to disable win11's fake requirement checks for updating. It is perfectly functional on old hardware, Microsoft are just trying to force people to spend money and upgrade for some random reason.
That's what I think: Microsoft is trying to force our hand. And to play devil's advocate, I would wager that Microsoft knows perfectly well that both PC and laptop sales will go off the charts in the next couple of weeks (and even more so afterwards), after people realize what kind of brain-damage it takes to install something like Arch Linux onto their current PC's, no matter how old they are.
Just looking over the many instructions and videos I found on the Internet, it drove me crazy, and I am still somewhat clueless on how exactly to install any version of Linux or Arch anything onto my older laptops and old desktop. It's like if I want to install Linux I'll need to do a crash-course on things like regedit's and stuff like that pronto.

To say I'm confused on which route to go now is a big understatement...so I'm kind of leaning towards going for a Windows 11 upgrade, somehow -without having to spend $30 bucks on something that's only good for a year (for each PC).

Something inside of me is telling me that Microsoft is conducting a worldwide experiment with the Extended Security Updates thing, giving you the option to pay $30 bucks/year for an operating system that has full Microsoft updates...they seen that people will pay the 100 dollars/year for a single Microsoft 365 subscription, or they see that people will pay for more cloud storage after you use up the standard 5 gB that Microsoft gives you on startup free.
So, who or what's to stop Microsoft from charging a yearly fee to use their operating system? Nothing. Corporate greed always wins out. It just might come to the point where you will either pay them the operating system fee ransom, or you will go without an updated OS, period...just watch how many people will just pay the ransom to not go through the hassle of buying a new PC to avoid the risk of a firmware attack, ransomware attack, etc...

(I hope that I'm dead-wrong on that assessment, but something tells me I'm not, because corporate greed is running rampant these days...)

So, in the meantime I feel that in the next couple of weeks, people trying to do the upgrade to Windows 11? It will turn into a snowball, which will then turn into an avalanche, so I'm trying to get ahead of it before the panic factor coming from all over the world sets in.

I found this guide a while back when I gave the Windows 11 upgrade a thought. Mohegan, did by chance you use a guide like this, or maybe this particular guide in general?

Never in all the time I’ve dealt with computers have I had even the smallest problem installing Linux, let alone going through weird preparation chores. I must be severely brain-damaged as you write.

Aziz wrote: 02 Oct 2025 10:44 But did you check why? In many cases it's a matter of entering bios settings and changing something there.
I'm reasonably sure I did at the time. I'm also not a fan of upgrading OS in place (or replacing an OS on a working machine) so I waited until my machine was end of life (based on personal criteria) and bought a new one.

I really like having the old machine and new machine both active so I can move data between them and keep the old one running for a month or two to make sure I haven't forgotten to move something.

San_Sany4 wrote: 02 Oct 2025 12:38 The game works great on Linux. Just saying.

Curiously, the Windows build of the game runs even better through Proton in DirectX 11 mode than a native Linux build in OpenGL.
The problem is wheel support ... ;)
You might be surprised, Moza, Cammus and some others have support by default, no driver install necessary. Settings can be controlled by the app boxflat. Some Thrustmaster and Logitech require a separate driver install.

If anything you may have more issues with random peripherals as steam/proton can interfere with them but there are usually ways to make them work.

Do your research first.

I plan to stick with windows 10. Too much stuff to try to get to run on 11.

Takwn the decision currently to leave my W10 as it is tbh, don't see the need to move away from a working machine when I'll actually need it to do a big admin job over the coming weeks. The old i3 I have won't accept it anyway & that too is constntly in use so no point messing with that either until it blows up.

Plus having to reinstall Steam + ETS + Hori etc etc - maybe one day I'll psych myself up to it & it'll work flawlessly.

After what happened with the internet breaking announcement, I don't trust him anymore. However, it's more than likely something related to an Halloween event (hopefully), I think 1.57 is happening later
