SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

DD-Wheel Physics [ETS2 v1.59] (5-12-2026)

#1 Post by gl00ria » 12 May 2026 15:43

The Background:
Well... coming from RBR and AC franchise was... If you know you know!. So, my physics target and expectations had to be aligned with the current game's physics engine, to deliver the best DD-wheel feeling while driving your favorite truck. Please note, this mod's targeting Direct Drive Steering Wheels while driving from within the Truck's Cabin.
Belt-Dreven Steering Wheels, Controller, Keyboard and Driving from any other view is not included in the scope of this mod. It does work, but the results are not tested.

Therefore, after trying each and every physics settings (Default, Free, Paid) I decided to do it myself in order to match what I am looking for.

The Target:
Before we start, imagine 'Punching a Wall' VS 'Punching a Pillow'... The later is what we want to achieve for the (Steering Wheel & Truck Tyers).
  1. The Steering Wheel Feel:
    • Shouldn't clip while turning from (Left to Right) OR from (Right to Left)
    • Should be stiff but easy to turn at low speed
    • Should be stiff and controllable at high speed
    • Just a small sense of vibration in case of messing the gear
    • Shouldn't feel snappy
  2. The Brakes:
    • Pressing the Brake pedal should only slow my truck, not pin it to the asphalt. "I see you truck racers!, (F7 >> 1 >> Enter) are your new friends"
    • The weakness of the brakes should make me aware of my truck, look farther ahead and use other techniques to stop/slow the truck like (Engine Brake, Trailer Brake, Retarder).... maybe pull the handbrake... JOKE!
    • Should use the Engine Brake wisely, especially on a wet asphalt with a corner at high speeds.
  3. The Bumps:
    • Should feel which tyre took the Small/Mini Bump (Right/Left)
    • Should feel which tyre took the Big Bump (Right/Left) AND a little bit of wheel clipping
    • Should give me a hard clipping feel when driving on the Sidewalk. "I see you Roundabout cutters!"
    • Should leave the game without wrist pain after a long session.
    • The most important thing, all the Bumps should feel like hitting a Rubber not a Metal. No more metal hammering feel and sound.
  4. The Engine:
    • Should feel the Steering wheel vibrates JUST a tiny little bit while the truck is idle or at the right speed with the correct gear
    • Should feel the Steering wheel vibrates MORE when the engine stalls AND when the truck's at low speed with high gear
  5. The Uphill/Downhill:
    • Uphill: Truck should truck struggle, based on the gargo load.
    • Downhill: Truck should pick-up a reasonable speed 'NOT A ROCKET SPEED', based on the gargo load.
  6. The in Cabin Motion:
    • Just a little bit to add an immersion, and not too much to feel like a washing-machine.
    • Should match the turn of the Steering wheel, in a way that makes it smooth not snappy.
    • Should leave the game without motion-sickness after a long session.
    The Settings:
The FFB feeling will vary based on:
    - The "NM" your steering wheel has (3nm, 5nm, 12nm.....30nm?)
    - Where your steering wheel's mounted (Rig, Table)... or someone's holding it for you while playing??...
    - Your body!, are you the one don't skip a Gym day, or the one who don't know what Gym means?

The players around me have different wheels from (3nm to 12nm), the settings built against 6nm wheel as a middle ground

With the above increase/decrease the values by 5-10% to match your liking.

    - physics.sii

Any mod changes one or more of the above files, will defeat the purpose of the mod.

    The Issue Report:
Me Game crashes using your mod!!!.... Sorry, you have another problem in your profile. Editing the physics will CTD before loading if something went wrong, which means I wouldn't have it released unless fixed.

    Code: Select all

    - Game Version:
    - Mod Version:
    - Profile Type: Modded/New
    - Using the settings above: Yes/No
    - Report Type: Game Crash/Settings issues
    - If settings issues: What brand, How many NM your wheel has, which settings you have (With/Without Power Steering Settings)

In case of a crash, post your complete game.log.txt to pastebin.com (no account needed) and then post the link here and we'll have a look for you (split the game.log.txt into multiple pastes if it is too big).
If pastebin is not available in your country please use http://rentry.co and post the link to it here please. The page works like pastebin.
The files can be found at "C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\American Truck Simulator" for a default install.

    The Contribution and Development:
To contribute your wheel settings please use the below template:

    - Mount location: Rig, Desk...etc...
    - Using the above settings: Yes/No. List the changes if any.

To contribute in the developing part:
Note that I am satisfied with all the default values in each file, changes has been made only in a couple of the variables to align with the "Target Section" mentioned above. If you have other suggestions, please do list them and why it has to be made. The suggestion will be reflected on the next release if approved.

Hi gl00ria, first, I hope you are doing fine. Second, thanks a lot for all your mods and add-ons. Third, I do not use a Wheel, I'm a kbm user and will be the same for many reason in the foreseeable future. I have a ETS2 guide for beginners that I don't publish here because this post is not about publicity, but I know for sure that users of the collection will ask for a wheel tutorial and add-on related. Since I have no idea about any of this, can you explain me like I'm 5 if this is an mod that help wheel users to setup and use properly a wheel so I can recommend people to come here and read and pick up the mod?. Thanks in advance.

Glad you like them,

Instead of giving you the fish, I prefer to teach you how to fish.

- Kick the link to any AI you prefer, or copy/past the content
- Ask it to explain it in a 5yrs old format
- Analyze the output
- Create your content

This is a win win for both of us:
- I won't have to re-write the whole post in a 5yrs old format
- You learned how to fish

The above will help you to farther improve your content instead of asking each mod author about what they do.

Feel free to contact me "Private Messages" with the points you didn't understand after following the above process to keep this post clean.

Have fun,

Haha, thanks, I have same mentality. And it was good advice. So, it is something users will would to check if using Direct Drive Wheels, so I will add as a recommendation and linked in the final instructions, it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
