Asian Truck Simulator

#1 Post by vlad_30 » 05 Jul 2026 16:25

Hello everyone,

I wish to share a long-term idea.

It could be interesting to see a separate truck simulation project focused on Asian regions in the future — similar in concept to American Truck Simulator, but set in countries across Asia.

Such a project could explore completely different road cultures, landscapes, vehicle types, and logistics environments

I understand that this would require a massive amount of development, licensing, and planning, so this is purely a discussion about a possible long-term direction for the genre rather than an expectation.

That'd be pretty interesting. China has some highway infrastructure that's just plain nuts, including many of the world's highest bridges, and there are plenty of daunting and interesting highways across the continent.

The biggest hurdle I can see with it is the sheer size. Even at 1:20, this would dwarf ATS and ETS2. Politics are another issue: I can see troubled/controversial areas being avoided, such as the Middle East, Iran, and Afghanistan, and maybe also China itself. The map would also be fairly disconnected: [boromir]one does not simply drive into China[/boromir], as you would need Chinese plates, a temporary Chinese license, and you'd have to fill out a ton of paperwork, apparently, and then there's South Korea (and Japan, by extension) being pretty much inaccessible by road, what with the DMZ and all.

I think just a Japan Truck Simulator would do very well. General interest is another thing to consider: a map of most (if not all) of Asia would largely be made up of regions that would be considered "boring" or "irrelevant" (for lack of a better word) by most of the West (no disrespect to the people living there, but we don't really think about Kazakhstan and Bangladesh all that much; I believe Asian Truck Simulator could enlighten outsiders about these parts of the world, but they'd be hard sells), but Japan is pretty hot, and has a much more manageable size that could easily be scaled larger than 1:20. As good a job SCS does, though, I think the hypothetical Japan Truck Simulator would be best handled by a Japanese studio.

Japan, India, and China would be the most interesting Asian spots for a Truck Sim in my opinion, but if I had to choose one to have as it's own game, Japan would definitely get the nod.

Least controversial of the three, most popular of the three, and it's got a nice expansive road network despite it's small island size. Forza Horizon 6 breaking it's franchise player numbers proves why Japan is a popular open world game location. If SCS wanted to do a third TS game, would much rather see SCS pull off a Japan Truck Sim than an Australian one (as I have little interest in Australia outside of the coast).

By the way, I'll mention that there's a fan-made map of Japan - "Project Japan."

A long time ago, there was even a topic on this forum, but the map wasn't updated for a while; the topic was probably locked and then "disappeared."

"Project Japan" has its own website, and is being developed and updated.

Link to the website (in two languages): https://ets2.jp/en/
Official YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uw21hF2zaks

Personally, I still use this map on a separate profile. ;)

I just watched the Project Japan You Tube video and it looks great. I really loved seeing the traffic was full of JDM cars and i also spotted an MR Isuzu and a Fuso prime mover. I'd love to get this, but I'm not tech savvy and the instructions look really complicated.

@David Paterson it's easier than the instructions make it look:

- download and install 7zip https://7-zip.org/download.html
- download Project Japan https://ets2.jp/en/downloads/
- in File Explorer, right click the *.001 file you downloaded -> Extract to "Project_Japan..."
- in the folder that was created, move all the files from MAIN_MOD (and the "*addon_jp_company.scs file from ADD-ON_MOD) to your ETS2 mods directory (in Documents)
- in ETS2, create a new profile, set the map to japan.mbd, and set the mod load order to:
addon_jp_company
DEF
MODEL1
MODEL2
MODEL3
MAP

For that last step, I think the pictures on the installation instruction page are helpful: https://ets2.jp/en/projectjapan-ver-1-1 ... %E9%A0%86/

FYI - Japanese trucks are not available to drive in the mod itself. You can only use European brands. If you want to be realistic you can stick to Scania and Volvo. If you want to drive Japanese trucks, you need to be willing to track those mods down on Japanese twitter, which is something I've tried and failed to do personally.

Thanks for your help. :) I followed the instructions and got Project Japan working. It's awesome! The scenery is great, the street scapes are incredibly detailed and as a fan of JDM cars, I'm busy playing cool car spotto in the AI traffic.

I think there is huge potential for Asian Truck Simulator, notwithstanding the fact that it would be a massive task.

SCS would need to get licenses for the Japanese truck manufacturers Hino, Isuzu, Fuso & UD and now I guess would also need to get the Indian, Korean and Chinese brands in too.

The sheer size of the Asian landmass creates another challenge, but here is a left field suggestion. The maps don't need to be contiguous; They could release separate maps for say Japan, South Korea, Singapore & Malaysia, India & Bangladesh and Indonesia. Each of these would provide vastly different scenery and conditions and rather than using imaginary ferries, players could create separate profiles in each of the map regions they have purchased.

We would also need rigid trucks and buses/coaches too.
