Hunting Unlimited 1 (2001) bow issue?

Posting this may be a shot in the dark, but I bought HU1 the other day and I've noticed that I'm having issues landing any shots on the bow missions. It seems to work in the shooting range, but its like the arrow just passes straight through my target when I'm actually on a hunt. Is there a known bug with the bow or is this just a skill issue? If it is a bug, are there any fixes I can download? Thanks!
