Oh I'm fully aware Apple are doing the same. All in the name of getting people "connected", making people THINK it's all for our convenience.

"Smart" phones, same thing, on-line banking, medical records held on servers. Notice a pattern yet? The two main OS's that we normal people use are developed by American companies, forcing us to update to the latest and greatest features, without us "knowing" what we are getting. Governments rolling out "cheap" internet, so the poor can "afford" to get on-line *cough* UK *cough*. It amazes me how naive majority of people are.

A status update from the developers would be interesting. Will we receive Vulcan support in 2018?

Don't expect to carry a full survailance device -aka cell phone with double sided cameras, full microphone, location data, step counter, and now with your fingerprint unlocker(!)-- with you and blame anything on Microsoft.

Only excuse not to use Windows 10, while using previous Windows is acceptable if you don't own a smart phone or your computer is ancient...

I actually would like to see Vulkan instead of DX11.
Vulkan works on all OS's, DX11 works only on Windows.
Also by now we also have DX12, so why even bother with the outdated DX11? go Vulkan!

Also Vulkan is much better than DX12:

At this point id be happy with either dx11 or vulkan. Would I rather vulkan? Of course. But Dx 11 would still be a big improvement from the limitations of the current dx 9 on a single core. I really wish we would get some sort of update on how this is progressing.

One of the problems that scs probably has is that they probably still want to keep dx9 support for those that are on very old hardware. This undoubtedly makes upgrading the engine and underlying data types more difficult when legacy support needs to be kept. I imagine it'd be simpler / easier to drop support for dx9 entirely and upgrade all the internals to dx11 compatible but I doubt this is something they want to do.

The only reason to not go with dx 12 (and it's a valid one) is that it would exclude a lot of the player base that is not on windows 10. If they are looking at keeping compatibility with their legacy dx 9 then they certainly aren't going to be interested in looking at dx 12 I think.

AMD now drops the DirectX9 support for some Games with the latest adrenaline video card driver. The trend is clear away from Direct X9.

you should check your sources

AMD didnt drop anything, someone screwed up with the DX9 implementation and now some games are not working anymore (ETS2 isnt named in the list of not working games, yet)

I've always felt that AMD's driver design is very forward-looking. They do a fine job of supporting the latest graphics technologies.

Unfortunately, they don't dedicate as much support to backward compatibility. AMD graphics driver support for DX9's built-in compatibility for earlier DirectX versions is spotty. Most people into retrogaming prefer Nvidia GPUs -- not out of any particular loyalty to Nvidia, but due to their stable support for pre-DX9 games.

Driver programming, particularly graphics driver programming is complex; Nvidia typically has more resources to spend on it. When your resources are more limited, it's best to focus on the present and immediate future -- that's been AMD's specialty. DX9 is still too prevalent to fail in supporting it -- I'm sure they'll have it sorted soon.
