Does game run on Windows 8.1?

I last played ET2 on a Windows 7 machine (January 2013), and as I've just installed a new graphics card, I decided to re-install the game on this PC - Windows 8.1, but I can't get it to run at all, not under DX or Open GL, not from a shortcut, or even the program files exe. Can anyone tell me if this has happened to them, and what causes it? Surely the game must be Win8 / 64bit compatible. I have no problems with Euro Truck Simulator 2.
Meanwhile I'll work on the problem, and if I find a solution, I'll post it

It runs on my laptop and I have windows 8.1.
And, it's a shitty laptop as well.

Thanks for that. I must say it's a bit weird. Maybe a DirectX issue..........

Did you install Direct X?
I don't know for sure if this is necessary, but I always do that on a new OS.
I have Win 8.1E 64bit and can confirm that it is working.

Thanks Flemming V. I believe I have DX 11 or 12 installed, but ET2 installation advises installing DX 9, which I did. Perhaps I should ignore that and stick with the latest version. I'm about to try reinstalling the game.......

No, re-installed without Direct X 9, and the program still doesn't open. I'm installing the copy of the full game I have on HDD, dated May 2011, version 14.0.0.162. Is this the latest / final version, or would re-downloading get me an updated copy?

DX 11 and 12 are not DX9 compatible. You need both DX9 and DX11 separately. ETS 2 runs on DX9.

Cheers Cadde! I missed your post while I was editing mine . So I guess the best thing to do is DL DX9 from their site. and install in Windows.......I'll do that now............

What is the error exact? Does the log files say anything?
As Cadde says, you should have both versions installed.
I always (If I am in doubt.) run install and see if it install Direct X, if it need it, it does, else it skip it.

Please post the contents of your game.log file located in My Documents\18 WoS Extreme Trucker 2\

There may be something there that one of us can recognize as the culprit.

Flemming V: The only 'error' is the program simply won't start - a 'busy' response from the mouse pointer after clicking on the application for about 2 seconds is all I get Cannot install DX 9 as a separate download, and have DX 11 installed. So......trying another ET2 install............

Unco: Sorry, not able to do that as the game has not been installed before on this PC (new in March 2013), and so no ET2 folder exists in Documents
