Weird cockpit vibration

#1 Post by Edwin » 14 Mar 2014 00:04

There's one thing I haven't seen mentioned yet, so I'll report it.

Last week I was driving on the windy road between Munchen and Praha and I noticed something odd. In hairpin bends I get a strange rotation vibration of the cockpit. It's looks like the truck jumps slightly alternating on the left and right side. It actually feels as a visible response to driving from triangle to triangle where the left and right wheel react to the new gradient at different times.

Could this be related to the new physics? I used to run with the realistic physics mod before 1.9, but never noticed anything like this.

Has anybody else experienced this? Note that this is not limited to that particular stretch of road, it happens on any road that combines sharp curves with steep gradients.

For the record, I'm running with only two mods. Improved weather 1.3, which I did change this behaviour and a personal mod to tweak the looks of my truck. Haven't tried it without this one yet, but I know exactlyl what it changes, so I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have anything to do with it.

If you could post a video clip demonstrating the problem, then we may get a better idea of what you're talking about! :D

I experience that too, one of my favorite route is from Torino toward Bern, great scenery, but looks like with the new physics the vibration/wobbling left-right makes it less enjoyable now.
Anyone can try, you drive at 15-40 km/h due to the tight curves and some time you feel like the truck has legs instead of wheels.

Hope will be a way to turn that off via a mod or maybe, like for the meteo events, to have it reduced in the preferences.
Apart from that, the game seems overall more fluid than before (less freezing) and 1.9.x looks like a good patch.

Cannot provide a video, I used 1.9.10s from Steam.

cheers,
Dorin

Now i'm running 1.9.11s and things could be fixed now, so maybe the above comments are not relevant anymore..

I'll check it on the new update later and see if I can confirm that.

It looks like is the same with 1.9.11 so I'm switching back to 1.8 as it's more enjoyable.

Is this the same that has been reported here?

Even at low speed the truck "walks" and vibrates.
I understand it is beta so maybe we just need to wait until someone from SCS will be kind enough to drive, say, from Torino to Bern, to check this out.

cheers,

Just want to add an update, I altered, through a .scs in vehicle\physics.sii file these

Code: Select all

  # maximum cabin pitch forward angle
	cabin_max_pitch_angle_front: 0
	# maximum cabin pitch backward angle
	cabin_max_pitch_angle_rear: 0
	# maximum cabin pitch roll angle
	cabin_max_roll_angle: 0
the "0" value is, of course, extreme, but it does the job for now, so I'm sure there will be a way through a mod to fix that.

cheers,
Dorin

I want to confirm this bug, too.

When taking a corner, doesn't matter if it is hairpin, or just slow and easy, the entire cabin shimmies -- vibrates erratically from side to side in a stuttering manner. This does not happen in 1.8.2.5. This effects both stock trucks as well as mod trucks (Volvo VNL 780, Peterbilt 389, etc).

It's not a serious bug like the truck stalling out, but it is annoying and disconcerting. Hopefully, SCS will take note before the final 1.9 is released?

I think this is part of the physics. I have disabled any physics mods since I believe this is something new with 1.9.x. I experience this somewhat when braking on a downhill curved ramp at an interchange. I kind of accept it, since I use to get this when I ran a physics mod previously.
