@Emaulligu Thanks, mate.
In terms of overall truck width, there's no much benefit from mirror-cams. On the other side, as you mentioned, cameras cost more to replace or repair in case of damage.
I've heard from a few drivers who drove the new Actros (IRL) that they feel a bit distracted with that screen in the cab because it's so close to their line of sight while driving. Also, when driving at night, the illumination of the screens is distracting and more tiring for their eyes while they're focused on the darkness outside, and it will probably cause some level of sight damage in long term.
I understand that truck manufacturers are competing in aerodynamics and fuel efficiency, but still I consider mirror-cams to be a marketing gimmick.

Agreed. Didn't think about long-term exposure but people working with computers suffer from screen damage already, no need to add that on truckers as well.

Agreed especially the constant shifting from some brightness to dark outside will strain the eyes more and more as they try to readjust to the dark. Am sure the drivers do get some blind spots before the eyes adjust. Also just imagine if the cam malfunctions at night you are completely blind

Just wait 2 years till the electronics breaks for no reason as it usually does in anything. I'm sure it's gonna be cheap to replace :p

i guess that in following years drivers around the world will choose what works best for them, and manufacturers will simply follow the market and money.
