I love this game! Possibly...too much! lol
I currently am using an xbox controller, it works great. My only problem is after a few hrs, even with breaks I find that the controller is not comfortable , at least on the left hand where most of my steering is done. Right seems ok, but I use it far less during the driving. I was looking at steering wheels, but I'm concerned about control of acceleration and breaking. My current set up having foot pedals would not work well. I was wondering if any of you have a steering wheel and use keys on that for accelerating and breaking? I realize I may just be stuck with pedals or using the controller, but wanted to see what you all thought. How do you keep a comfortable set up for extended gaming periods?

Might want to look into using the mouse for steering and accel/brake. I used a controller before but found that the limited range of the sticks didn't lend itself to prescision steering and even driving straight was somewhat difficult. The mouse is much more precise and I think it's as good as it gets this side of a good joystick or wheel.
Note: when using the mouse you will want the "Steering sensitivity" almost all the way to the left and "Steering non-linearity" somewhere in the middle.

+1 for mouse steering.
Its more precise than the controller, puts no/less pressure on the wrists. My thumbs screamed of pain during my short stint with controller steering. Not recommendable!
For precise & comfortable steering there's no alternative to a driving wheel but the next best & cheapest option IMO is the mouse.

Re: Controller/Steering opinions wanted
Hi I'm using a Logitech 510 gamepad which is pretty much the same thing as the Xbox controller what I've done is assign the steering axis to one of the analog sticks and find this works quite well for me as I find that to get full lock all I need to do is move the stick a fraction .
Sorry I can't really afford to buy a wheel ( A$500-A$600) and don't have enough room on my workstation for it .
Hope this helps you a little bit
Regards
Adrian

A Logitech G27 is the best option, but if you can't get one of those (they are expensive), look for a wheel with programmable paddle shifters on the steering column. I've seen several wheels on Amazon that have this, although I can not comment on their quality. I set my gas and brakes to the paddles on my G27 and I love it that way because I'm diabetic and can't use the floor pedals because of peripheral neuropathy.
