Allowing dry freight to be hauled in Reefers

Something I found out recently (even though I have watched many of Luke videos, I am sure he never said anything about this), although it is not much of a surprise that reefer truckers sometimes do this, but they do tend to haul dry freight in refrigerated trailers, there was some sort of name for doing this but I forgot what it was.

Aille (Youtube trucker) has been hauling reefer lately with a brand new super cool truck which is super silent, after "things with south quickly" for the flatbed haulage company she was working for. And she in one of her videos she had dry freight in a reefer trailer somewhere in or near the first part of October 2015. The video that I am watching 10-09-15 (mm/dd/yy) (by the time this is read I would have already finished it) there is a comment from another Youtuber who is a trucker (or has really good stories)

Allies, 30 yrs of reefer and I can tell you that just when you think you've experienced everything, something new and different pops up. I diverted a load of bulk potatoes to an Amish farmer and he and his 3 sons unloaded me with shovels, as fast or faster than most machines. Hauled blood, ping ping balls, coins for the US mint (recommend avoiding that!), ostrich meat, horse meat, every kind of produce you can think of, and so much weird dryvan freight its almost unbelievable. Keep the antennas up and the tires down. Dryrot said that. 10-8 and 10-10.

So yeah.... definitely good for trailer ownership. Although I wonder why companies bother buying a dry van trailer when they can just use a refrigerated trailer, well I guess one is way cheaper than the other to maintain.


So I guess you can add trailer maintenance to the list of trailer ownership. Of course the refrigerated trailer would be more expensive to maintain. (Reefer and components, Engine for Reefer, diesel fuel)

As for diesel fuel for the reefer could refilled at the repair shop or at the gas station, otherwise a "trailer is too damaged" warning could display or "reefer is out of fuel" or "reefer is too low on fuel" when trying to take a job with that trailer.

If Euro truckers also haul dry freight in a refrigerated trailers too then why not let this happen in ETS2 as well, despite Luke never said anything about that.

Sorry for the eventual (non U.S) off-topic but here in Europe There are several aspects regarding this issue;

One of the most important it's the weight of the trailer. A reefer combo weights around 19 tons leaving room to load only 21 tons. A Tautliner combo weights around 16 tons and has a loading capacity of 24 tons. Sometimes is even less, for example our Stoptrans fridges working with Air-Freight has installed roller-bed rolls which deliver a total combo weight of 22 tons and a net weight of only 18 tons.

One of the big advantages of fridges is the security. Here at Stoptrans we use them a lot for hauling electronics, cosmetics or tyres which are high value loads and with high probability for thefts.
Of course we also have Dry-vans but we use them mostly to Hanging Garments loads.
