Middle twist-locks up on long container

#1 Post by Smarty » 02 Aug 2016 19:08

The middle twist-locks on the gooseneck trailer are in the protracted position with the long container, clipping through its bottom rail.

I think the quick, dirty, effective solution is to separate just the four cylindrical bits into a separate piece/part and use two variants for the trailer chassis: with the middle part for two containers; and without for the single, long container.

While we're here, ISO containers have standardized dimensions... :?

Don't know why SCS modelled this 30 ft container, something that's never been very common and now extinct i believe...

It could have been a strategy to make it easier to change the upper coupler height (i.e. no need to change the container model over the gooseneck portion) if the fifth wheel height on the trucks ever changes. Wasn't there a big cleanup on the ETS2 assets for such a thing not long ago? If you look at the ATS dump trailer, you can see evidence of such a change already I think. Or it could just be unfamiliarity with the in's-and-out's of container chassis; It wasn't too long ago I didn't know the first thing about them. The flip-ups and 12-pins still confuse me sometimes.

Sometimes I wonder if trailers modelling at SCS is made with old HO scale Herpa toys on the desk

Probably easier to fit through the door than the real thing.
