[WIP] Spicer 6x4 Compound Transmission 1.1 [1.4+ SCS 389]

SCS as a company do not wish to have paid mods on this forum. While we understand that not all paid mods use the Intellectual Property of other companies/people, it is very hard to moderate what is and isn't acceptable when money is involved. There are also concerns that it could look unfavorable to potential work partners going forward if SCS allow mods that may potentially use unlicensed branding.

[WIP] Spicer 6x4 Compound Transmission 1.1 [1.4+ SCS 389]

#1 Post by DragonFire1170 » 01 Oct 2016 09:06

This is my very first mod, and I decided to make an oddball transmission type from long ago that I haven't seen in a mod yet.

This is the Spicer 6x4 (6 into 4) Compound Transmission, consisting of a 6-speed main gearbox and a 4-speed auxiliary gearbox; the transmission features in total 23 forward gears and 4 reverse gears.

I expect there to be a few bugs or issues with this mod, mostly from it being my first mod and also due to me going by unofficial data that was mathematically worked out here:

http://www.thetruckersreport.com/trucki ... ion.18110/

Final Drive Ratios:

2.80
3.08
3.25
3.42
3.55
3.70
3.90

GLOSSARY:

L = Low
U = Under
D = Direct
O = Over

Example: 1L, 3U, 5D, 6O

SUPPORTED TRUCKS:

All base SCS trucks for now

KNOWN ODDITIES:

The transmission's gear ratios are rather odd and tend to overlap with one another, which will possibly translate into awkward gearshifts if you're using automatic, and I doubt a shifter will be able to handle this many gears. However I did a quick test drive before I decided to upload to see if it was at least driveable, and I was able to get up 70 mph with no issue, aside from the awkward shifting at some points as I use real automatic. Check the description for the full ratio list.

KNOWN BUGS:

None for now

Any suggestions or tips are appreciated to both improve my modding ability and to make this mod more realistic, hope you all enjoy this oddball.

CHANGELOG:
1.1
Greatly reduced price of transmission to $6,125 due to it being so old, and it make it easier to swap.
Level requirement is now 1

Thanks for the mod, DragonFire1170. Mod is not working with KW680, because you forgot to create "transmission" folder and put sii files there.

This transmission is very well put together. It's a shame that SCS doesn't have support for dual box transmissions, and therefor your cant actually shift this transmission. I would love to be able to plug in a 2nd shifter and shift this in my RTA 359.

I think that all that must be done to simulate this transmission or one like it in game is make it possible to map the same function to more than one button and let one button perform two functions. So your second shifter in first position could set range to 1 and splitter to low, second position range 1 high splitter, you get the idea.

Or the whole thing could be coaded like a simple transmission with 24 gears and then all youd need to do is let each gear be defined by two inputs, first position+first position= 1-1, you get the idea

Ooooooh thank you so much! It works great! I'm using it for an old Petebilt 359...
