Re: Poll: Choose (2) States you would like to see next
the "scale hack" is for the UI so the UK doesnt look bigger then the rest of the UI map, you will still feel the map stretch and it will intervene with expansion to Canada in the future if the positions doesnt fit at all anymore

Re: Poll: Choose (2) States you would like to see next
Agreed on Canada. That's why I say 1:19 or 1:18 is more feasible. The entire game should have been 1:17 though. That's between 1:20 abd 1:15. Cities are fine at current size but a tad more space between cities is where 1:17 makes good use if distance.
1:17 with the current manpower perhaps only adds 2-3 months of dev time vs 1:15 at 6+ months. They'll make due with what they have though.

My post are only thoughts and ideas. Don't assume it makes ATS.

But if SCS decide to change the scale of the whole game, then they should change it by quite some amount; not to just 1:17. If you do it, do it good.

A total scale change? that I do not see happening.

They changed the scale once in the beginning and then there were only three states. So no, I don't think so...

Re: Poll: Choose (2) States you would like to see next
I think what most people mean by "scale change as we go east" isn't really a scale change, but rather a small distortion of the background map that would result in areas like Rhode Island having more space than they otherwise would have with the current map projection. So in essence, SCS would replace the background map with an ad-hoc map projection that would keep existing states the same while gradually distorting the size and orientation of states out east. Time and distance would still be 1:20, but the map would just be unrealistically distorted in the east. The distortion would be subtle enough where there wouldn't be any crazy immersion-breaking distance disparities between for example Boston and NYC.
The fact of the matter is that ATS does not take place on a globe, so there is inherent distortion in the map projection that SCS chose anyways. If it's already technically unrealistic, why not distort it a little more to make more room for the tighter east coast states?

How they fit the small states will be interesting.
I’m hoping mapwise they do a southern state then do the ones north of it and keep going north. I like how the current map is and hope they try to keep it that way, and if the Midwest is atleast to Chicago which I’ve seen some comments about then they can head to Florida but then keep filling in all he middle states.

oldmanclippy, that's what I do mean
distortion in both south/north and east/west, the more east the map gets. That would be theoretically possible. While keeping the 1:20 time scale and 1:3 for cities/towns.

Re: Poll: Choose (2) States you would like to see next
How it looks is meaningless compared to how it feels.
It's very difficult to not notice just how much longer everything takes when you're in the UK relative to when you aren't. It doesn't help that the (ETS2 incarnation of the) UK is really really boring to begin with, but if you make the mistake of switching to it from the mainland in the middle of a route, it feels like you're traveling in slow motion. The US doesn't have instant ferries from the west to the east, at least, but I still feel like the distortion would be noticeable.
And even if we accept that they can play with the scale for the east coast, why then should the west coast get screwed? There are plenty of highly dense areas there, as well - Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, and the Puget Sound region, for example. All of those areas are individually arguably more important than some entire states on the east coast. Do they not deserve the same attention the east coast allegedly deserves? ...and then from there, why not Texas? ...and then from there, why not the midwest? ...and then from there, why not the rest of the country - shouldn't we flesh out the empty space in places like Wyoming? ...and then from there, dollars to donuts that we'd probably start complaining about the east coast being relatively cramped again.
This is one thing I'm not changing my mind on: whatever scale is used, the map should stay consistent, especially if it's intended to be continuous. And anyone under the impression that they're going to do a full map rescale at this point is in a different plane of existence altogether.
Re: Poll: Choose (2) States you would like to see next
Full map rescale? to that I am too on the NO side.
SCS could do the stretching, but I do not believe in that either.
Will be interesting to see what the maps after Oklahoma will be.
