Signs

Utah's state rout signs are of course, a beehive. I have examples of 1, 2, and 3 digit signage.

For highways the Utah Department of Transport (UDOT) uses pipe style sign posts for exit and informaton.

There are also several of these electronic information signs on the interstate highway and on state highways.

A county sign with an old highway sign with direction sign below it, usually they will only have directions at intersections and would otherwise just be the rout sign on its own.

Another common sign as on 3 lane highways or more it is illegal for trucks hauling trailers to be in the far left lane........they do it all the time anyway

Once I start talking about individual roads ill add more specifics on signs, landmarks, etc...

Welcom Signs

There are several different types of "Welcome to Utah" signs, each one is themed off of the nearest "point of interest" on that particular rout and has the slogan "Life Elevated" on them. There are also two sizes that seem to correspond with how busy a rout is. I will picture each one, its name, what it is picturing, size, and where each one is located

Arches - depicting Arches national park and the Delicate Arch, these ones are placed on the East side of the state, where they are closest to Arches national park.

Dinosaur - Picturing an Allosaurus, one of the state fossils, the other being the Utah raptor. It is also promoting the many pathological dig sits in Utah. These are placed on the east most lower corner of the state where they are closest to dinosaur national monument, a vast dig site that is located on the Utah Colorado border, being shared by both states.

Golden Spike - This one pictures the Golden spike ceremony which celebrated the completion of the first transcontinental railroad on May 10 1869 at Promontory in northern Utah. This is such a significant event that I will probably talk about it in a later post. These signs are located in Utah's North Western corner.

Lake Powell.png

Lake Powell - Picturing Lake Powell, a large reservoir created by Glen Canyon Dam on the green river upstream of the Grand Canyon and the hover dam. It is a massive tourist spot. All signs are on the south border of the state.

Ski - Picturing a skier as Utah is a large winter sports state both before and after hosting the 2002 winter Olympics, and has used the slogan of "Greatest snow on earth". These ones are on the North East corner of the state.

Wasatch - This one shows a skyline of Salt Lake City, the capital of the state. They are located on the North and one on the East on I - 80

Zion - Picturing Zions National Park, again I will definitely have more on this later. these are on the South East.

A large feature in Utah on I 80 is the section through The Great Salt Lake Desert or the salt flats. This area is extremely flat and strait. No trees and very little vegitation. Mountains can bee seen off in the distance both north and south of the road. The section through the flats runs approximately 42 miles 68 km.
