The mountains in the Gallatin Valley - Bozeman

One of the things I noticed is that everyone comments that Google Street View, shows the mountains near the city of Bozeman, without the magnificence they have. They comment on how the mountains emerge from cliffs in a valley plain " Gallatin Valley'' ( link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_Fc9h6IOsk) , quite flat. Maybe these videos can allow a little more approximation of what the locals know, and want to be broadcast on the Montana DLC map, by SCS.

The Big Hole Valley: Valley of 10,000 Haystacks.

Hay Baling - Ranch Hirschy, Jackson, Hole Valley. Montana.

Stacking Hay in The Big Hole Valley: Valley of 10,000 Haystacks.

Good morning to SCS Software's research team, we are bringing something very unique, different and very characteristic of Montana today.

A hay baling technique. It is even a tourist attraction and historic landmark in the state of Montana (see information board historical: 0:53 time start - 1:04 time end).

------ MACHINES -------
Below is a small survey of the machines that are used in Montana's traditional hay method. Here the use of mechanization, in general the machines are old (tractors, pick-ups, straw rake) and others are genuine Montana machines, for example: - 'buck-rakes', 'beaverslide', 'power pick-up'.

1. Machine - straw rake:

2. Machine - 'buck-rakes':
This machine works in a way that is very similar to a forklift. However its function is just to push the rows of hay, accumulating and placing it in the 'Beaverslide' machine (this impressive machine native to Montana, has the function of lifting the large amount of hay, and throwing it to form the big haystacks. Montana famous).

3.0 Machine - power pick-up:
Montana farmers generally use adapted pickup trucks, which have powerful engines in their rear with enough power to drive the elevator of the 'Beaverslide' machine. Carrying out the wire rope drive for raising or lowering the hay elevator. The traction function performed by pick-up, it is also customary to use old trucks, and also conventional tractors, including crawler tractors.

Video 3.3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KX6w5sR4_iU

Video 3.4: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbmb7ylbuPI

4.0 Machine - 'Beaverslide':
The iconic Montana machine is also present in some of the American states as agricultural relics, in some areas of the American Rocky Mountains. Its most abundant occurrence is in the state of Montana. In Montana and its greatest concentration occurs precisely in this regional Valley of the State of Montana.

4.0. a) Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beaverslide

4.0. b) Reference: http://bcarrollphotography.com/detail/b ... g-montana/

The operation of the machine is very simple; it consists in the use of some machinery (Pick-up, tractor, truck, crawler tractor) that has traction force for the coupling of equipment that allows to drive the machine in its hay elevator system. The transport of this colossal size machine in the hay field, to make new hay stacks, takes place using a tractor, or crawler tractor (they have the ability to pull the super heavy set).

------ Haystacks ----
Above we present the key machines involved in creating these vital Montana livestock structures (to keep Montana's famous herds alive and healthy through the winter) in traditional, ranch-style fashion. Below is the conclusion of the research, with images of the final result. Haystacks can be ''tower'' or ''long'' shaped.

Scenic overlook. Big Hole Pass. Road: Montana Highway 278. City: Jackson.

The survey below, presented in a very simple way, aims to present the main historic landmark on the route 278. So if SCS Software wants to include this road 278. That has this beautiful scenic and historic attraction, here is some information. This information is complementary to the previous post.

Just wanted to share my input with Montana by adding some info about Montana's Agriculture Industry

The state itself is big into crops such as Wheat/Barley/Hay as well as Beans/Potatoes & Sugar Beet.
They are also big into Cattle and do also handle Sheep & Hogs as well as livestock goes.
https://farmflavor.com/montana/montana- ... -products/
https://www.netstate.com/economy/mt_economy.htm
Second link above also mentions it's general industry structure.

Also in Montana their also well know farmers that to other types of crops first 2 that come to my mind are Welker Farms & Fast AG Montana.
Here are links to their respective homepages telling you a bit about them selves and what they plant and harvest.
https://welkerfarmsinc.com/
https://www.fastagmontana.com/

Now with Montana's Truck combinations and Gross Vehicle Weights.
Montana has some on the heaviest legal weight in the country with a Max weight of 131,060lbs generally while if travelling a B-train down from Canada to the town of Shelby a legal permitted weight can go upto 137,800lbs.

Nice economy link there @howey. Some prefabs of recent industries are surely to come to Montana. Livestock will bring cattle for sure. But can we get sheep and hog now to add some diversity to the live stock trailer? They are pretty much the only ones that could get added. Crops, it would be nice if we can get at least 2. Wheat could be one along with another. I'd hope it doesn't take Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa or the Dakotas to bring wheat. Those states are several years away and I don't know the last time something came new for hoppers, dumpers or chip trailers.

Petroleum is in place and will probably expand with Texas. So whatever Texas gets and what's in the game now, Montana benefits from. Lumber.....it would be nice to finally see plywood on flatbeds. Plywood should be available for flatbeds, sliding tarps and step decks if we ever get them. Prefab houses would be sweet along with telephone poles. Telephones poles should bring a new specialized trailer catering to super long cargoes. There's a solid half dozen new cargoes that can utilized a super long chassis trailer. Coal came with Wyoming so we have that as another newer cargo. Talc could be new but how beneficial would it be adding to the ATS economy. Hopefully Montana can make its mark in ATS by bring a few things.

I'm seriously hoping for a Limestone quarry in Montana. We have some cargo from ETS2 that can get used along with some extras. The concrete/cement industry should get a bit more established. Sand and aggregates are part of that process.

Montana Scenery Suggestions

#67 Post by mielkman » 02 Feb 2022 18:11

I know it's not even released, but there are a few things I'd be sad if were missing, and as a MT native, I thought I'd add my two cents on notable Montana landmarks.

Cutbank - This small town has two big landmarks for people in Montana. The Warren deck truss bridge over Cutbank Creek on the BNSF Railway ( https://bridgehunter.com/mt/glacier/bh42389/ ). This historic bridge is notable when driving along Hwy 2.
and the penguin. https://goo.gl/maps/D2y3tVBmY6gMuWdk8 The Cutbank penguin is a notable local landmark

Coram -
The "Amazing fun center" https://goo.gl/maps/D2y3tVBmY6gMuWdk8 in real life located on Highway 2 between Hungry Horse and West Glacier. It's a tourist trap, but it's a highly visible landmark since the road is elevated above giving a clear view of the maze which is their primary attraction.

Havre - Two geographical features in particular -
"Saddle Butte" https://goo.gl/maps/ewB4PozFcou3dsnx9 The very wide camera angle of Google earth minimizes this landmark. It can be seen for miles before you reach Havre in both directions on Highway 2, and is the reason for the original name of the area - bullhook bottoms, so named for Native American tradition that the 'saddle' or dip in the butte was "hooked" and torn out by the horn of a giant buffalo, which brings me to the second geographic feature...
The "Airport Hill" https://goo.gl/maps/jx5GnxeSxa8N19st9 which as has been explained to me by local Native Americans is where the giant buffalo lay down after gouging out the saddle in saddle butte. It's a local landmark that unofficially announces you've 'entered' the Havre area. (also the weigh station is almost immediately after.)

Conrad - Gas Diesel Hotel Casino sign https://goo.gl/maps/c5esEPUTUtZb6ro2A
It is difficult from the wide- angle google imagery of the area how prominent this sign is mainly because the streetview on I15 is all in the northbound lane, or maybe it just stuck out to me travelling between Shelby and Great Falls at night, as it is a very large illuminated sign.

Great Falls - the old 10th street bridge http://www.montanas-archbridge.org/index.html
Yes, it's a bridge you can't drive on. Its demolition was protested and an organization has been created for its preservation and restoration. The big scenery point is that they spent a fair amount of money to light it artistically so it really stands out after dark. http://www.montanas-archbridge.org/even ... ldr21.html I could understand having some fun and stretching reality here a bit and changing light colors for holidays - pink for valentines, green and red for Christmas, etc.

Hobson - The Montana Bale Trail https://www.russellcountry.com/montana-bale-trail.html
While this is a seasonal event, straw bale decorations (and hay puns) pop up along highway 87 between Great Falls and Lewistown every year, and is always a highlight of driving this route.

Judith Gap - Wind Farm https://goo.gl/maps/La9pFPWMxSss6MdXA
If Hwy 191 is included, it won't feel right without the wind farm between Judith Gap and Harlowton. It was one of the first major wind farms in the state, and lets drivers know headed south that they are near the 191/12 intersection. and it doesn't require any assets SCS hasn't already made. That being said if 191 isn't a driveable route, it wouldn't be visible.

Wolf Creek Canyon on US 287 https://goo.gl/maps/5qoNhfstDURxrAXc9
I mean, this is going to be in there, it's the most direct route from Helena to Great Falls, it's just important that is feels appropriately winding. You need at least 3 good slow-to-55 turns in this canyon over prickly pear creek.

Billings - Zimmerman Trail https://goo.gl/maps/aXzPswDftj2E7YfQ9
On a map, this little road doesn't look like a big deal, but it's one of the few ways off the "RimRocks" and down into Billings, I could understand fudging the road and joining it directly to Shiloh at the round about (without the Grand Ave cut across) to get down to I-90. It's a difficult road to drive as it's narrow, steep, and winding, and it's a great view of Billings, and lets you kind of bypass the more congested areas on the west side.

Just some suggestions from a local, for what they are worth. I'm excited to drive around my state at any rate.

Edit:
This one kind of needs a local history lesson: The Noel tree outside GreatFalls, MT. https://goo.gl/maps/vmKQaZSsCupCD1tm9
Some Newspaper articles on the saga of the tree - https://www.greatfallstribune.com/story ... 927331001/ https://www.greatfallstribune.com/story ... 100313866/
In short, it's a little Juniper that gained local notoriety for being decorated for Christmas until it was accidentally cut down during an interstate renovation plan. On google maps, you can see it on the hillside prior to 2017. Some have attempted to plant replacement junipers to be the new "Noel tree" but none have really survived. It would be a neat in-game nod, just a juniper with decorations and maybe the letters "NOEL" on the hill beside it.

Jbte wrote: 07 Apr 2019 01:17 A "must see" area in Montana would be the Glacier National park with its famous road "Going to the sun", in my opinion, it's the most scenic road in the continental US. Of course, this road is restricted to commercial traffic but there can be exceptions for players to get into the road as like it was in Tioga Pass in game.
This road is located here;
https://goo.gl/maps/BePX2AdUcvA2

A big excuse to use this road would be a road construction for like a mud or rock slide, repaving of current road conditions, or even a special cargo construction for maybe a new tourist attraction like a glass skywalk in a dangerous area (fictional deliver), there are many greats ideas to give a special usage to this road even if not for commercial traffic.

Hope SCS map makers get this place most impressive possible with huge mountain cliffs and vertical drops, if not included or made properly me as a map modder I'm more than willing to do this road and I have been to this place twice recently I perfectly know of what areas to recreate 1:1 in the current game scale. If SCS needs my help I can do it, if not I'll later do it as a mod.
Thank you SCS for considering my suggestion of Glacier National Park in Montana, I appreciate the attention to the community.
[ external image ]
https://twitter.com/SCSsoftware/status/ ... a63fi21aTQ

My only suggestion is it possible to create a new road profile narrow, in older versions before 1.35 there was a narrow road which was useful for rural landscapes but later was removed would be useful to have it back or I suggest a new narrow road profile for this national park view since this road in RL there are some spots where barely two vehicles can fit, but I understand for gameplay purposes the road must be wider and AI traffic behavior, in my opinion, let us suffer and give some more challenging roads and fight with the AI of who can pass.

Similar to Yosemite National Park in California, I guess this road will be restricted to commercial traffic with a fine, but accessible to the players (optional), would help if some special missions to the park could be considered, maybe a special transport mission to a road construction zone, or picking up a fallen tree to leave the national park, or maybe some maintenance work or construction of a visitor center, etc, just some ideas to make this road useable to the game.

Also is it possible to fix the lack of grass detail in the shoulder texture?, which overall is present on all road profiles, fixing this little issue could help to improve visuals of the roads, and the lack of maintenance next to the road.
Thanks! Looking awesome as always.
